Breedts Nek Group Ride - Saturday 29 September 2012

Sorry, I’m a breedt’s virgin, don’t know the place at all. I have a 4x2 with diff-lock with ample clearance. The driver could always stay put for the group to return and the join in again.

No critisism implied :) but no fun in messing up your bakkie either!

If the driver is willing to stay put at the top, even after the shorter distance riders turned around, then no hassle, but as Nance said it will be a l-o-n-g wait as coming back from the 45km turn around to the top is the real tester on the 90km ride. Unfortunately there aren't any real other route option to get back to Hekpoort, other than Harties or Rustenburg!

....and we must pedal that terrain????? .... NOt sure what I am looking forward to the most - needing a leg replacement after or negotiating terrain that will give a 4x4 a run for its money...... maybe it rains? :whistling:

Just a short section towards the top of Breedts on the other side that will be impassible for non 4x4s. Welcome to push your bike here (It has been done before :whistling:)

Generally district gravel roads, and some sand towards the 45km turn around point :) The challenge with Breedts Nek is NOT the technicality of the terrain, but rather the climbing

Thank goodness I am not phased by the technical side of MTB-ing but this will probably not be a pretty site - although I am hoping I might feel a difference in the climbing with my upgraded 11-34 setup (I been riding on a 32 for ages and been told its not the best for climbing)! Now just to find shorter cranks and I should be styling!!

Message from the Smolster - he has banned himself from the hub to get some work done so asked me to convey the message:

"I'll do the 68km, but if I feel good I'll do the 90km. And tell jcza that we need spyker bombs"

Tell him the spykerboms are sorted!

Sorry Nancy, looks like the group I'm riding with wants to start at 6 from Van Gaalens  so I'm sure we'll see you out on the road somewhere!

No hassle.... how many of your group were on my starting list? So I know who to cross off....

Pleasure ND....I will definitely join next one, as long as someone will be riding right at the back with me, I'm not a fast climber and still brand new to the game....lol
