Can someone please educate me.

I have a shimano XT 9 speed system on by MTB. If want to go 10 speed do I have to purchase everything - shifters, derailleur, cassette and crank? Can I get away with just the cassette and the shifters?

Sorry for the doff question. It's lot of money going XT all over again.

Do a search in the Technical section. This subject was comprehensively dealt with a few months back. All your answers is there.

edit. But yes, you can get away with shifters and cassette changes only.

Why not the chain as well @Wannabe?

Thanks for the replies guys, did a few searches in Tech Shack - no joy.

So why can't I use my old derailleur? Derailleurs aren't indexed are they? I'd probably buy a double xt crank and new shifters (obviously with the 10 sp cassette and chain), but what would be the difference between a new long cage derailleur and the one I have?

Sorry to sound so dogged, but it's a fair bit of cash.
