Great. Do they also have helmuts, as I can bring my own hairnet????

If you are a VA member, you just need to go and sign out a bike, no pre bookings, no fees. Hemets are available  . Available for Two hour sessions.

Can we just focus on the positive outcome of this decision? We have City fathers who seem to be keen to promote cycling and that's a good thing. The tax debate and who is entitled to benefit from the spend is another debate and not relevant here.

Agreed. But after you define "cycling" in your context?

:) Just kidding!

this is working out suprisingly well ... being used a lot by parents cycling with thier kids .. cyclists behaving themselves and riding at chilled pace ... so we can all live side by side after all

How nice! Hardened roadies will never be maxxing out on the promenade. The surface doesn't make it vaguely conducive for that. Doubt it would attract many skateboarders either. Paving is not the smoothest option on this stretch which could be the walkers and joggers blessing in disguise....

I don't think that is the point ... the point was to make the promenade accessible to more people doing different sorts of activities ... and the fact is its working ... many thought it would not ... myself included

I'm not disputing that it's awesome a wider variety of non motorised activities are now endorsed along this stretch. Just stating from a practical perspective why it's not been overrun by the obvious crew who would spoil the situation for all wheeled pleasure seekers.
