Try a S-works Fast trak ( 530G) on the back and Maxxis Ikon / Spez Control/ Ralph

I have used a Geax Saguaro upfront and they are great but very Heavy

Another thing to look at is this water catcher thingy ( made of material) have seen it in the UK quite a bit just above the front tyre attached to the fork in a vertical position stops the water and mud shooting up in your face

Racing Ralph front, Kenda smb 8 or geax saguro's works well, had the fast traks on rear till it cut open on side wall properly 3cm...had to walk. There shld be a topic to save weight or to walk 10km!!!!!

So is everyone in agreement that running with specialised renegade controls tyres will not suit wet conditions in Sabie?

Nope. For wet Conditions Fast Trak, For Extreme Wet/Muddy Conditions The CDaptain

I spec all the cross country bikes I build with Racing Ralph Snakeskin 2.25 with sealant. The rear is always mounted in reverse. Light, fast, grippy and not much hassle.

I hear all the comments about Ikons lasting long. That may or may not be true but you will never find out because you will put so many holes in it you will retire it long before it wears out. I got to seven plugs eventually. That being said it is a fast and grippy tire.

Racing Ralphs are very good and I have also had good service from Bontrager Jones.
