I have a carbon 29er and when cycling at a certain speed there is a vibration that I can feel that comes through the frame. Its not the crank because at a certain speed when I free the bike I can also feel the vibration .

I am not sure what it is but its irritating and should not be like that

what can it possibly be?

All my wheels are tight ( front through axle and back drop out )

I checked a few forums/websites and the indication is the disc rotar , but its not when I brake that this happen only riding at a certain speed peddeling or freewheeling that I feel the vibration

could it possibly be the dics rotar that touches the brakes at a certain speed that causes the vibration ( possibly open the brakes a little) or can it be the hubs ( not so sure this is the problem , but looking at all the possibilities)

A friend of mine has a Devinci Wilson that has carbon seat stays and he had a vibration from the rear disk rotor. He tried lubing all the pivots, Tightening bolts etc etc. Eventually he bolted on a smaller rotor and the problem went away.

Maybe give a smaller or bigger rotor a try? Just a thought. The rotor might resonate (vibrate) at a certain frequency much like the string of a quitar so if you change the size of the rotor (guitar string) the irritation goes away.

I know this might sound stupid but i swear it worked on my mates bike.

Headset.

Interresting did not think of that , but if feels more like it comes from the back.If it is the headset would I not first feel it in the handlebar or at least more in the handlebar rather then the frame?

Probably. Wont hurt to have it checked.

Rear wheel side, check your axle and cassette.

Check your wheels. Take them out of the frame and spin them and see if you get the vibration. I had a similar issue on a bike after I had to use a bomb to seat a new tyre. The C02 caused the sludge to congeal. The lump of sludge made the wheel so unbalanced that I also had a serious vibration at certain speeds.

True.

I had that in a front tubeless wheel on a road bike once.

Even the rear rim being slightly out of round or not dished perfectly can cause all sorts of vibration problems. Does the vibration stop if you go faster?

jip then it goes away
