29 rims on 26 frame... almost on KTM

Thanks Eldron. That makes sense. So one woul ultimately look for around x30 maybe max at 35?

Most mtb tyres are around 2" wide (29x2.0 or 2.1) so the equivalent in a 700c tyre would be ~53mm.

Now I haven't seen many CX tyres in bigger than 30-35mm so my recommendation would be = the widest you can find that fits in the frame.

My opinion is that narrower tyres require higher pressures to protect against impact snake bites so widest it is! Wider also means a slightly lazier ride in that you don't have to be super alert to any and all potential impact punctures.

Steve,

those are fairly heavy. May as well stay with the Giants I have laying around...

Thanks Eldron,

How would I know what would clear without having the tyre? The diameter (the 30 to 35mm) would most times be the same as the height from the rim right? So the tyre is more or less round? So can I use that as a guide? Or am I missing the point? Maybe just add couple of mm for the knobblies?

Would you be using disks or v-brakes.? If you use v-brakes you have to get a new front fork, and manufacture something like I did for the rear brakes.

I have put 700x35c Continentals on my almost finished bike.

Jamis Dakota 26" Carbon Frame

I have a 29er fork on it, but a 26er Fox could have given the clearance up front if I had found one.

I will run gears, but I am not a SS fan.

I believe that you can find up to 45c tyres, although I have only seen up to 42c. I will get bigger tyres when these wear out.

Disc brakes. The frame dont do V...

>>Nolipoli. I was thinking 29 fork in 80mm will be almost the same as a 26 120 in Geo? I have a 26" fox and will see what the clearance is tonight. Have a feeling there is more clearance on the Ultra frame on the stays than there are on the fox fork...

I got a 100mm fork, but an 80mm one would have been better. I must see if this one can be internally adjusted like the Rockshox can.

A mate of mine ran cx tires on his 26er fox and said it was no problem, but I don't think there is a lot of mud clearance.

Thanks Nolipoli. Rockshox 29's would be the answer and then just space down to 80mm. Not so sure the 26er fox will have enough clearance. 26 regid will be perfect cause it will have the clearance. But dunno if I wanna go and buy a fork for such a specific use.
