Hi Guys, I'm pretty new to the realm of road cycling and looking to buy a new set of wheels for my bike. I'm constrained to a budget around R 3000 and would like to know what the best options would be? I've got a few fun rides coming up for the rest of the year and working towards a decent Argus next year so will be putting on quite a few miles before then.

As a matter of interest, I've looked at CRC's wheels and considering one of the three options below (from them at least. still open to other suggestions):

Any advice?

Hello,

Those Fulcrums look the shizz for sure! No weight info on the pro lite but looks a lot more entry than the other 2 options.

You've done the obvious and looked at these eh??

Here's a good deal if it's still available:

What's wrong with your existing wheels?

My bet is that your R3k spent on new wheels will excite you for about 12 minutes and then the effect is lost.

R3k doesn't buy you wheels that will be a significant upgrade on anything you bike is fitted with at present.

Rather put that R3k into your pension fund. Thank me when you're 60.

Right now, go for a ride. Smell the jacarandas and stop thinking about wheels.

Existing wheels have taken a bit of a beating. Riding a second hand Scott Speedster S20 which I bought a year ago still with the original low-end shimano wheels. The rims are losing their true and the spokes need to be replaced. So rather than fixing up the wheels at this stage I'd like to invest in a new set (may still keep the old set merely for training purposes).

The wheels I'm considering would be a fair improvement over what I have at the moment. And yes, they wouldn't necessarily give mind altering performance but I can't really justify spending much more than 3k at this stage. I'm not at an elite level where a 10k wheel may improve my ride significantly, so just not looking to spend that much on a new set.

Counting down the hours till I can hit the road again (1 and a half left for today). Just a pity I won't be smelling the Jacaranda down here in CT though. But thanks for the perspective. Fully understand what you're saying.

Also look at a set of Tokens I still have to see a better price for the weight of those wheels give Francois at Manic Cycles in Worcester a call for a price. I stand corrected but I think my friend paid about R4000 for Carbon hubbed sealed bearings set that weighed about 1460g, I think he also sells non carbon hubbed for around R3500. I DO STAND CORRECTED!!!!
