Interesting how a new VersIon of windows Is called legacy but a new version of linux or mac is called break through.....anyway I use both and I can assure you my latest mInt maya is not perfect and has crashed a few times. People really need to realise that since wIn 7 windows is a very reliable stable os

Not really.

It's just that with Linux one does not have a huge budget-driven hype trying to rip as much money as possible out of my wallet. An upgrade/update/whatever means bugger all to me, except greater stability and some maybe some nice new features. I basically don't give a rat's bum as long as I get my regular security upgrades.

Why Mac fanbois and Micro$softies would queue up to pay their overlords a tithe every few years and then proselytise about it is beyond me...

I do agree...where we have an advantage is that we are partners which means we basically get all their software..office..os..server os...db...etc etc For about 3k every year which is affordable and in line with our business. As I have mentioned before a lot of our software we used cannot be run on mac or wine. Could use virtual machine but that seems ridiculous

Outlook is the biggest handbrake of all in terms of raw out-of-dateness. HTML email is actually still stuck in the '90s and it's almost 100% due to Outlook and the decisions M$ have made around using the Word rendering engine.

I am not concerned about the usability of outlook than the html maIl component. I moved to thunderbird for a while but for very frustrated so moved back...perhaps I am like an old dog

I upgraded the wife to Windows 8 and so glad I did. I'm very impressed with where they are going and they did a good job. The tiles work better than I anticipated and being a developer, I understand M$ intentions for using them. I love the social aspect of Win8.

For those that care: You can take up the special offers upgrade for Windows 7 Starter. Just fill in the online form and wait for your promo code. Cost me $14.99 to upgrade wife from Starter to Win8 Pro.

I was also impressed that the Linux and Grub was left intact. All the apps on the Windows 7 install worked after the upgrade - did not have to reinstall a single app.

Going to do my laptop tonight.

Too soon, I've learned a long time ago... never be the first, or one of the firsts to have anything. check out what happens to everybody else first, then you go for something.

Its very stable and M$ got it right for a change. I'm not a M$ fanboi but I will give them credit as it seems they have eventually broken their 2nd release flop cycle.

Don't really see how its over rated, haven't seen much reviews or advertising besides the couple of mails this week from Makro etc.

Anyways, keen to check out this Metro GUI, heard its nicer than OSX - I use both Windows + OSX daily, Linux I have no experience with.

IMO they both good, but depends what you need to do. Mac can't run any games for s**t, but super efficient if you using Exposé and the rest of the features. Windows will do whatever a Mac can, but in the marketing world the creatives need their macs - they look cooler.

Windows 7 is awesome, can't fault it. XP is way too simple for this day and age - and doesn't really work across networks with Macintosh.

And of course 64bit is the only way to go, unless you just using a pc for word and internet explorer.

Will install Win8 in the next few days - expecting driver issues and all the rest that comes with a new OS. Apparently its faster than Windows 7.

There are 3rd party tool that bring the start menu back for those that seriously miss it.

I am dying to upgrade, but as a developer it means having to reinstall 3 versions of visual studio, 2 versions of SQL server and various other applications. Means at least 2 days of not being fully functional at work.

Will definitely do it over the Xmas period when things are quiet.

Why do you need to re-install everything?
