Quite an interesting problem with both Strava and Endomondo on my iPhone 4.

For a couple of rides now at Northern Farms my apps would stop working halfway into the ride. About 14km to be specific. Happens to both Strava and Endomondo. Also only started happening after going up to iOS6 from the looks of it.

Nowhere else does this happen which makes me believe it has to do with the cell reception at NF or with the location services etc.

Anybody else experience a similar problem?

MTN.

Im starting to think it's only NF. Getting a bit annoyed with this now. Not too concerned about distance etc but I do like to track progress on Strava's segments to see if I improve on rides. :(

I'm considering going back to IOS5 actually. 6 sucks

Sorry to hi-jack this thread a bit. Do you use both strava and endomondo on your rides? Or do you use one or the other. I dig Strava's segments thing, but hate the screens they have in ride. So I just stick to my Cyclemeter, but it has no segments.

I use only one at a time.

Have the following on the phone:

Pro version of Endomono

Free version of Strava

Cyclemeter

You can export a GPX file from Cyclemeter and import it into Strava and Endomondo's web interfaces to get access to the info.

Will try Cyclemeter next time I'm out at NF. Hope that is still stable.

Seems like the GPS drops just after the single track with the root garden when you exit the single track to go up to the next single track in the forest section.

are you by any chance listening to music while running endomondo?

There's a known bug causing random crashes if you use the built-in media player while running endomondo. Mine stopped crashing after I started using a 3rd party music player.

also try turning off your wifi, supposedly this increases gps accuracy. mine also randomly stops tracking the route, or start losing distance which may or may not be related to gps signal strength

Thanks Anine.

What I think might be causing problems is taking photos and video during the rides. Could maybe be the same bug as listening to music which I don't do.

Will start checking to see if it's running after taking photos and before continuing the ride.

On that specific day I stopped at that spot to make a call to another rider to check where they are.

Could have been that I only had EDGE reception and making the call disabled the data connection. Upon ending the call the app crashed.

mmm.

If all else fails - upgrade to ANDROID!!wink.png Never had a problem, and even when we ride together and yours crashes, mine still goes. (I must admit - lost a few kilos on our breedts ride sat on Endo? Could possibly be signal?) I am Vodacom.
