The very cheapskate version. : For a tensioner use the rear deraileur

Spacer kit: Ask at the lbs for a few discarded small cogs

Give this man a Bells.

There are rules to SSing. Your first SS has to be built with old *** you have at home (or as close as you can get with your old ***).

My first SS was an Raleigh RM9 - the old Kinesis alu frame with vee brakes. I used the middle blade, the 9spd chain and ripped the casette apart for a cog and spacers (I had to rip a few knackered old cassettes apart for enough spacers). My tensioner was a circa 1990 shimano deraillauer with the bottom wheel hacked off. That bike rocked. In true SS tradition is was given a second life my a mate then handed on to a third when said mate went all bespoke like...

My latest one is a bit more bespoke and blinged out ;-)

Several reasons to go rigid:

It looks super clean.

It's light (this is more consequence than reason though - most SSers ride steel bikes).

It makes you a better rider by forcing you to read and ride the terrain.

It's cheap(er).

It's fully like hard core bru.

Yes that is why! Now go rigid...Glad I listened to you when I faced with the choice. No regrets

Considering it. Take off and sell the spanking new 105 groupset, and fit a flat handlebar. Have it stripped, painted black, and get some thick white wall tyres on it.

Beware you become an instant snob the moment you climb on a single speed. Unlike the bike conversion it is irreversible

All those wimps with the gears are just such ( add favourite derogatory term here ).

You are the pinacle of cycling. untill the clown on the unicycle comes past wearing a freedom challenge blankie

do the change..

my experience on SS is its fun and simple.

I'm looking to upgrade my current frame to something I'll actually enjoy riding.. ( was and old geared bike that i retired cause i didn't enjoy how it felt... eventually built it up as a SS and remembered why i didn't like it.. but the actual SS riding i enjoy.. )

there are a million and one reasons to go SS, and a billion and one reasons to stay geared. but nothing beats the fun factor..

and thinking maybe doing the Kremart Mtb race on a SS...who's going to join me ..

@karma....ouboet go rigid, there is something special about it, the only time things become really hectic was at descents like at Van gaalens 70...down the sattelite climb. For the rest you are sorted.
