I'm growing tired of gears...

I'm also starting a similar project, need to project cost vs worth - but so far it seems like a done deal...

Why - do you want one, or not? stop worrying about cost - payback is within a year on reduced maintenance costs if you stop riding the geared bike.

And nobody cares what you use as the base bike on your first one...

Waiting on a frame...will make plans from there on.

Karma, what kind of frame are you looking at? And where do you plan on sourcing it?

I'm thinking of running around to second hand shops, Cash Converters, Cape Ads classifieds, etc. Hopefully I can find an old classic at a silly price

To give you an idea of cost: I spent R1300 on the conversion of my old hardtail i had in the garage.

rear sprocket spacer kit and sprocket

Chain tensioner

Front Chainring

new 9 speed chain

if youre in the Woesrand, speak to Stefan at Westrand Cycles.

The Niners rock, should be a beauty.

Well I basicly need a frame and a fork, then I'm good to go.

Will probably only happen in mid January, unfortunately. Busy season at work - hardly gonna be home for the next 2 months. At least I get to pack the MTB

Ja, well, I'm gonna give the rigid a skip, I think. I wanna hit the trails and single track, and still have my front teeth afterwards. Even though I'm from Cape Town
