Ok so my chain was up for replacement - reached the magical 0.75 mark.

I did for some unknown reason had some "jumps/slips" on the last tow rides with the old chain. Replaced the chain and under quite some power the chain jumped on the 3 smallest gears on the casette. Went and bought a new casette, but compared each cog from the old and the new casette and the old one barely shows wear.. Anyone have an idea why i would have some chain jumping/skipping?

I had similar issues. Turns out my shifters were done, so the gears in my shifters were slipping and in turn the cables relaxed and let my derailleur move.

I'd suggest that you ask your LBS to check your shifters for you. This assuming that your bike has done a fair amount of mileage - I had 30'000km on my groupset before my shifters were done.

Edit: Yeah, as below... you check your derailleur first?

Had the same problems last week. Bought a new chain and cassette. Yesterday out riding, the chain started jumping again and then it twisted. Fortunately for me my friend (MTBer) came past and "towed" me to his bakkie and lift me home. It sucks

So any ideas what caused your problem?

Roland I have no idea. I used to ride Shimano, now I have a Campy groupset (bought a 2nd hand bike on the Hub) I have no idea how many kilo's on that groupset. I think I will have to take my bike in for a full service.

My brother had a similar problem on his 8speed shimano drive train a while ago.

He rode his first chain way past the 1.0 mark & when he replaced the chain (cheapy - not too sure the brand) it jump on the lower gears as well. We then replaced the cassette as well, but with no luck.

We then found the bearing on the rear wheel was a tad loose & we tightened it & voila - it was fixed.

Also check the shifters & adjust like half a turn backwards or forwards (maybe to full turn)

Just a last stupid question:

Have you put the rear wheel 100% back in it's position? Meaning not scew at all.

The chain takes about two rides to settle in.

Yesterday was my 2nd ride with the new chain. Can I just have the twisted links replaced?

yep - my new chain slipped under high power (i.e. standing on the pedals) once or twice in the first two rides and after that it was solid

So remember not to change a chain before a race but rather on a LSD.
