Intense Spider FRO 2008 Headset Bearings

So it seems the GF may now have a nicer bike than me. Intenspider FRO. Assembled it, but I don't think the headset bearings are correct. I used a Cane Creek Forty Intergrated IS41 - Tall. They look like the standard Cane Creek bearings. The top one does not seem to seat correctly. Does anyone know the size if bearings they require?

Check the chamfer on the bearing, the last one I bought the "cutout" was bigger than what I needed, I have both types in my garage, will be in jozi next week, meet you at the pub......

Well at the moment I just have a Qhubeka bike. SS bike frame broke and the Merida fork is now on the GF's bike. 25kg's and 42x 20t gearing fixie. Going to be interesting 94.7

I will get new bearings by tomorrow. I want to give that bike a quick spin before the GF gets her hands on it, cause once she has it i will never get to ride it.

Hello,

I spoke to Chad Duffy at Intense about the headset requirements for this frameset and he says.

Campagnolo compatible

FSA: Orbit CE 1-1/8 45/45 ACB

45/45 is key here. 36/45 (as I think you're running) is too small.

Westdene Cycles have a KCNC version that is compatible. I think I was R250.

Cheers.

Thanx very much. I will sort it out in the morning. Seems the one I got has 41mm bearings but you need the 41.8mm ones.

No worries. I was going to build up the exact same frameset (in red), so I had to hunt around for a headset that would fit. It seems the 45/45 is a Campagnolo standard called "Hiddenset".

Hope your GF enjoys the bike. I was very sad to have to let mine go.

Did you manage to sell the frame? Saw it for sale the other day. Almost considered it but would be strange to have the same bike as the GF. Next we will have matching socks and shirts. Going from a trek hardtail i think she is going to love it

I did indeed and I'm very happy that she's gone to a new home.

Ha-ha! I'm sure you're girlfriend will adore you even more now. :-)

The wife and I both have the same frames. Also Intenses by the way. Was just too good a deal to pass up.

Yeah i am still using HT bikes but the deal on those intense frames was too good. Bonus was it was blue. I earned a years supply of brownie points for choosing blue :-)

Man, it seems like all these new (old) Intenses that are coming out of the woodwork are dark blue. You guys sure it isn't a chinese rip-off. :P

Thanx very much for the advice. Orbit CE plus headset installed. Bike is ready to roll. Took it for a quick spin before the GF gets her hands on it. Very very smooth over the rough stuff
