Thanks Stephen

Had a look at the GPX file and with 430m of total ascend it looks great to do the 30km as a day trip taking some snacks with. If it's well marked then I don't see any problems with only the two of us doing it.

Thanks for the feedback.

The 30km is a fantastic route. Approx 70% single track that will challenge and delight you.

If you are riding this on the weekend, make sure you stop at Breakfast @ Karkloof to refuel or just have a coffee.

I will be in the area in about a week's time and I am taking the bikes with. I do however have a few questions.

1. How safe is it to ride these mid week? We will be 2 people riding.

2. Are the trails well marked or am I going to die and never be found again?

3. What is the weather like this time of year? What kit is recommended.

4. If point 2 is moot, will one of the locals be willing to show us around?

Let me know which days you are heading down. Will be glad to show you around if we find a day that's suits both of us. Easy to get from Karkloof trails to Howick and back. If you're down here over a weekend you can join our group ride. PM me and we can organize. Edited by Ryanpmb

We are heading there next week. Monday for Tugela, Tuesday for Karkloof and Wednesday for Hilton or Howick. Any recommendations for a self catering spot close enough so that we can still do a pub crawl on the bikes to Rawdons etc.

We (an extended group this time) just got back from our second visit to Karkloof (and Howick) this year (see above post). As can be expected we had awesome riding as well as awesome beer drinking. I can highly recommend doing the 15km Falls loop when doing the Karkloof 30km route. The Supa Tube section really rocks. Awesome trails and big thumbs up to the guys that do all the hard work building them!

Awesome!!! :D

After this weekend I can also highly recommend shuttling to the top of the Enduro runs and blasting down. Over and over and over again.

Ja, the outback trails are easily the best trails i've ever ridden-FAST and FLOWING. If you havent ridden Jewits Jive, Gauntlet, Father and sons and Bollywood you're missing out on the best fun you can have on a mtb

If you liked the Supa Tube you will also like Gauntlet in the outback trails-same awesome G-outs. The Falls loop is also great-far more technical and fun than I thought it would be

I like the way you came flying past us into the second part of Bollywood. After we stopped and waited. Took me a while to catch you again.

Well it seems we will have to return pretty soon to do the Outback trails. We chatted to the guy running the drinks and snacks bar but the 14km climbing seemed to put some of the group off and no-one volunteered to drive the shuttle.

Awesome, you wont regret it and those trails need more people raving about them  We took turns shuttling rather than wasting daylight climbing, so if you're a group of 4 you end up getting 3 runs down and then just shuttle once!

Or if you have the unlucky friend who keeps on having mechanical or physical "issues" he gets to shuttle up and rally the Subaru down more than ride. :D
