I have just got clip on tri bars on my road bike. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions about getting the best out of them?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

First, attach them to the handlebars. whistling.gif

Then, try them in different positions, reach etc. until you feel most comfortable. Preferable to do this on a stationary trainer.

Hi Trinut,

Where abouts are you located?

Troisport in Jhb can do a fitting for you at around R400.

Best to have a good setup done 1st time round, later, when you are more skilled, you can DIY.

Sliding your saddle quite far forward will help your position. Also start with the bars quite wide, for better stability and control, you can move them closer together as you get more comfortable Don't stress too much about it, I put mine on for the first time a few months ago, did a 1 hour test-ride and hit a triathlon with a 50 km bike leg. No problems at all, comfortable and FAST.

If you are a bit nervous get on a quiet road and ride around a bit, practice drinking changing hand positions etc....

Seat forward and slightly higher to replicate the different angle. The drop the handle bars slightly as well.

Not sure about the seat going higher, you may end up rocking on the saddle, you could drop the nose of the saddle a bit though

Agree with Red Zone. Simply putting you saddle up is not a great idea. Find some one who offers triathlon/TT bike fit and ask them to have a look.

Kent Horner at Cyclelab Westlake gave me great deal on the tri bars and did a set up for free. I rode with them yesterday at Jailbreak and it was amazing. Totally revolutionized my cycling and comfort.

MMmmmm... I had a look at their tribars there, but they seemed a bit pricey? Which one did you get and - if you want to - what was the price?
