Your 26" still has its place. I love my 29er and I just build a new 26" trail/am bike.

 

The test ride was a proper one, all 115km of it.

Im glad I did a long ride as opposed to a little lap here or there as you dont really get a feel for the type of bike. Only problem now is Joberg2c cannot come fast enough
