On my Reign I've run 22/32, 26/38 and I'm currently running 26/36. So in short yest you can. The only issue I had whilst running the 38 is that it was a big fat DH chainring so i had clearace issues with my Trvativ chainguide. Yoiu should take a look at bikebits.co.za at the Hope chainrings. They are light and can add a little bling.

Where's the best place to source such chain rings locally in Jhb?

bikebits.co.za. they are based in JHB.

i stand to be corrected, but the SRAM spider that holds the 38/24 has a 104 / 64 BCD (or even smaller?). The 26 tooth inner has a 80 BCD.

so i dont think you will get a 26 to fit that spider. I had the same dilemmer. I bought a new spider complete with 39/26 rings.

thanks - looking for a walk-in off-the-shelf experience. I gave Northcliff Cycles a call, they have stock at fairly reasonable prices

Actually he was very helpful today. Bit of confusion over 9 or 10 speed rings, since its not apparent on the Truvativ labelling or even after some googling, but he spent about a while trying to find out and said to take it, if not okay I can return them. Seems okay though.

I like the vibe in that shop, feel more at home there than any other bike shop. Maybe it was that house music playing in the workshop. And their stock is reaching the rafters, so must be doing well.

Stock reaching the rafters? Clearly that is a sign that stuff ISN'T selling?

Don't admit to digging the music, you're killing the dolphins by partaking of the devils beat. Did they have disco biscuits on the counter?

Yes, stock literally reaching the rafters - they got some fancy racks on the floor that they stack the bikes on. Good product choice. And Alex very busy on the phone, 'wheeling' and dealing, frames & bikes.

As for the tunes, each for their own as I have said and if you want to live in the past, that's your problem. And you don't need disco biscuits to enjoy house music :)

As for for the devil, well if you don't believe in heaven then there is no hell. And besides, I was told I was "die deiwel se werk" way back in Std 7 when I challenged our biology teacher to tell us about Evolution.

Getting back to chain rings, where can one source Raceface since CRC stopped offering them to SA? I prefer them to Truvativ.
