SS roadie

Hey guys, i recently bought a oldschool roadbike. What gear ratio would you suggest? I have a 16T in the back and currently a 52 in the front. But its way too hard!! Was thinking of getting a 42t in the front but experimentation gets expensive!!

I rode 90km in the Cradle on a similar bike with some mates this weekend. 42x18 ratio was just about perfect.

There must be plenty of old 42 blades lying around. I'm 42X18, but that's because 1) CT has hills, and 2) I'm 49, and way beyond Henri Desgrange's recommended SS age limit.

I am almost 53 and running 47/16. Done ou Helshoogte twice already with no problems. Enjoy the s/speed, haven't been on the geared bike for 2 months.
