Hi Guys,

Just a quick question (searched the forum but did not get exact answer)

Can you convert any rim to tubeless? (mate rides a older model Silverback Alpine and just want to make sure!)

Thanks!

Yip. Either with Stans' yellow rim tape or with the rubber rim strip.

Do a Youtube search for Ghetto Tubeless......did it on my bike and it has lasted 3 months now.

Tip, get a thin sealant, not a snot deluxe one as you need it to flow into the crevice where tire meets tube....thumbup1.gif

I bought 2x 20" tubes at Game for R80 and the sealant was another R50 for 100ml at LBS. i have to top up air every two or so weeks, but I suspect that will be because the tire is not tubeless.

Another tip, any tire will work, but dude at LBS told me that a folding tire seals better, but not as good as a proper tubeless tire. I just don't see myself forking out R350 plus for a tubeless tire when I can get the same result with something cheaper.

Note....tubeless tires have thicker sidewalls so if you are planning to do the rough stuff then they are better, but for normal XC and district road type rides you should be OK. On every ride I pull about 5-10 thorns out of my tires, so it works fine.
