Giant - Chain Breaker

I bought a Giant Chain Breaker on sat from Sportmans Warehouse in Atterbury....thinking that I should take it cos it was R49, 95 .... but yeah.... you buy cheap you get cheap.... two turrns last night, first time using it and obviously the pressure required for the pint to come out was too much for the cruddy tool and  it broke :(

Should have bought the Park Tool Chain breaker from Hot Spot, even though it was more expensive.  I will take the SW one back and request a refund, I am not too happy with the quality :(

got a silverback one, same thing, first use it was stuffed.

the beto one still going strongly after many year.

moral of the story ... if you buy, ensure that the little tip can move freely, and it isnt a one piece

did you use it right? I don't know what it looks like but I also broke off a piece of my PRO chain tool on the first use. I can still use it though.

I first put the chain over the blue section (see image) and then the one lip broke off. I then put it over the gree ones and with the help of the thicker backing piece, it works fine.

why not get an average sized one? Seriously tho.. stop with the chain breaking. its a pain. get a sram link fitted. then you never need to carry that silly chain breaker around again

Okay, and then you break your chain on the trail and need to remove the link to fit a SRAM link. How do you do that without a tool?

Not being sarcastic, I really need to know. I've never broken a chain on a ride. *touch wood 100 times*

Parra - I carry one of those RAV-X tools that is just a chain breaker/spoke tool and 5mm allen key (flat and easy to carry!). Like you say I have had the occasion (PMB XC national 2007) to break a chain and have to remove the left over offending bits and fit an SRAM powerlink. In fact that chain still has 2 powerlinks!

And if it doesn't break at the powerlink? It rarely does I would imagine!

just build a chain out of power links Wink

Yeah I assume that I should get a power link, and then fit that in today before putting the chain together again, then u suppose you can remove that power link and it is easier right?

you need to carry extra links which you've removed from your chain b4 putting in on the bike and carry a spare chain pin connector / SRAM powerlink.
