Black spade bikes good or bad?

Don't knock guys trying to get a brand up and running. You say you are sick of inflated prices, but then knock a brand that's trying to compete against the known names.

It may be cheap to import your own bike, but the logistics and effort are not worth it. I think the BS bikes are great and the fact they offer customisation makes them unique compared to just "another import".

I for one am a fan of the brand and have spoken to them and they say they want to offer more accessories and clothing as well so they not just about making a quick buck, they in it for the long haul. We should support them, not knock them down.

Hear hear.

Bullsjhit. Clearly you overestimate the value of your time.

You can import that Dual frame for no more than R7000. And that's with shipping, and duties. BS sells them for R12.5k. I have nothing against BS, Colin has got a nice hussle going and I hope he is succesful.

My suggestion is, don't try to make a killing on every frame you sell! Instead of selling it for R12.5k and making a fkin huge R5500 profit, rather sell it for R8500. Make less profit, but you'll sell allot more frames and eventually probably make more profit anyway.

Or I dont have the time, nor an international courier account, nor international banking option, to import 1 bike frame for myself. So no, its not bull***t.

Be careful about referring to someone as being a hussler, i doubt thats what hes doing, unless of course you know how much he's landing the bikes for exactly.

I have ridden my BSR road bike for 14 months with no problems at all. still get great compliments when I stop for a coffee. The bike is stiff and responsive and it is a little different to look at as apposed to all of the other, Giants, Specialiseds and Scotts out there.

Road the TT bike in the wind in PE last year and it was awesome. In fact sold it to someone who contacted me after the race as he thought it look really great.

Nice to offer some sort of difference in a market that is monopolised by a handful of big brands that charge high prices. A bit of difference in a sea of sameness.

Not for everyone, but for those who have bought, they seem to be happy.

I think you are reading a little too much into "hussle". Its an alternative word for meaning "doing something to make money".

Who said that I am trying to establish my own brand - nothing is further from the truth.

Who said Black Spade isnt good quality- I said I imported the same frame without having any problems with it.

What i am saying is that i am tired of paying over inflated prices. As to your comments about logistics etc. I make payment from behind my computer and like magic the frame is delivered to my door 5 days later - NOTHING is easier.

Congratulations then I guess, still, no need to tear a brand down when someone asked for opinions on Black Spade, then you advise them to buy their own no name one from China.

Like I said - I am tired of paying over inflated prices. That is my opinion, opinions are what forums are all about. Buying at 7K (most probably 5.5K because of bulk buying) and selling on at 12.5K - is in my opinion - over inflated.

Knowledge is power. Being informed saves money.

is it worth importing (minimum quantities for lower prices) only to make R2k profit?

I doubt bikes are landing, duty paid, for R5.5k. At 30-40% duties, you saying that full carbon bike frames are FOB R4k? seriously doubt that.

Not sure how you getting bikes into the country, but there is a lot more to a landed cost thatn just the factory FOB.

Anyway, I like the bikes and will continue to support them as these frames in a shop would be R15-R20k!

Not to hijack the thread but grey imports have a serious negative effect on the whole cycling community.

There is more than enough competition to ensure very competitive pricing.

Local agents and shops sends lots of money on events, sponsorships, advertising etc etc, without which, there will no magazines, sponsorships, event entry fees will go up. This is where most of your so called "over inflated" money ends up.

This is like hiring a Malawian gardener and then complain about unemployment.

No more comments from me, please continue discussing the bikes

I have the 29er hard tail, road bike and 60mm clincher wheels and have been seriously impressed with all of the products. Great value for money and great equipment!

No, a grey import is when there is a distributor with exclusive import rights and you import it on your own.

The Fong Kong brands (no-name Chinese, etc frames, etc) don't have any exclusive distributors here.

Like i said - knowledge is power. THERE IS NO, ZERO, ZILCH DUTY PAYABLE ON CYCLING ACCESSORIES. 30% duty is payable on complete bikes. A frame with forx is not a complete bike = zero duty.

That is exactly the issue - everyone think its a whole lot of work to import - it isnt. you pay online with your credit card and its delivered to your door within 5 days.

Try it for yourself.

If you want to talk about the pros and cons of importing you should at least know what you are talking about - you clearly dont know what Duty and FOB means..
