Maybe the Epic is AGAIN taking me away from the family, so my wife wants to plan an Orange river trip with Felix, Bundi or whoever, for the April school holidays, like the day after the Epic finished! And I normally just sleep and sleep for 3 days after Epic. Any company you can recommend, and what about Breede river? Can I sleep while my boy paddles?

We went with Felix Unite in a group of about 8 friends, around Easter perhaps eight years ago. I hope our pickled fish isn't still in their freezer.

My daughter paddled with me and my wife paddled with a friend.

The first couple of days I got out every time swearing that I hated everything that looked like a boat. Of course this had nothing to do with capsizing both days.

The last day they had to prise the paddle from my hands and I didn't want to get out.

Best family holiday we've had. Good organisation.

By the way the guides manage to paddle a loaded kayak solo, so I guess you can sleep.

I did the Breede River as well (with just the daughter and a couple of friends). Also a lot of fun - we were in the tented camp. It's a long ride to the start of the paddle and it could be cold around Easter.

Edit - bike content: be prepared for lots of comments about the bike tan.

Go with Felix I think they are way ahead of the competition, they are a bit more expensive but you realy get your money's worth in terms of the base camp, food, equipment guides etc...

Did a December run with Felix 2 years ago, awesome, maybe try the 4 day option instead of the 3 day because you have to cover the same distance so the 4 day is more relaxed.

Wife & I did an Orange river trip with Felix a few years ago. It was a holiday that I would recommend to anyone if you are after a soul soother. We want to do it soon, though April might still be a little too hot. One problem is that they didn't have a long enough extension lead for her hairdryer ... one that would reach from Noordoewer to the overnight camp sites.

Also make sure that you don't paddle with your wife. Sound travels a long way on flat water. They told me my engine had a loud whine. LOL

da was there for that one.  bit of wind made it a harder slog than was maybe necessary, but it was awesome anyway.  And your kid has probably got too much energy anyway...
