How would short stroking a bike help?

Wouldn't it be better to just get a more tweak able shock?

EDIT. Oops I see guys are trying to get a slacker headset angle but isn't that taking it a bit far to reduce the travel to achieve that?

Your travel drops to ±130mm

Makes it somewhere between the GT Distortion and the Force/Sanction

Second, mod was to install a shorter shock on the rear to further reduce my BB height and slacken out the bike even more. The offset bushings I have are still on the old shock, and I may add them on this shock in the future. For now the shorter shock really makes the bike super confidence inspiring. I rode Soquel Demostration Forest with the new setup and the bike felt perfect! I thought that with the Workscomponents 1.5 degree headset and the shorter shock that I would suffer climbing, but my fitness was still the only factor.http://ficdn.mtbr.com/images/smilies/smile5.gif

I will add a volume reducer to the shock because I bottomed out on a few big drops, but the stock shock bottomed out on the same features also.

Specs:

Fox Float R

Middle Compression Tune

7.25" Eye to eye

1.75" Stroke

Travel is now reduced to 131.25mm or so, but considering I was running the stock shock at close to 40% sag I really did not lose much. It's really super fun.

miss my old short shocked force. Super fun and covered ground super fast.

Wanted to try it with a mid tune rear shock over the low tune I had. But I did end up reducing the air can volume to make the shock ramp up harder to try and cut down on hash bottom outs.

Lots of travel is not the be end to end all if it doesn't work well, quality travel is where it's at. As are good angles on a frame.

Hey guys,

I am looking to get an Enduro bike, I currently have a 26er Silverback Mercury 1. I was thinking of buying the Morewood Shova LT frame advertised and building the parts over from the Silverback, yes I know I will need a new fork, anyone got a lead on a cheapish fork for starters? The Silverback has mainly XTR components and the frame is new.

I also like the Giant Reign, maybe just sell the Silverback and buy a secondhand Giant? What are your guys thoughts on the two options?

All advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dale

Both are great frames. I think the Giant is prettier, but that's just my opinion.

What is the geometry of the 2 frames?

edit: oh, and you should consider a shorter stem to go with the new fork.

Long stems look weird on Enduro bikes and also create a great environment for getting thrown over the bars

Double edit: and a dropper, and wide bars, and and and....

I had a Mongoose Teocali Super a few years back and really loved the bike, but due to financial reasons had to sell it. Some lucky guy in Kzn is burning up the trails...

Thanks Flowta, there are 2 Giant Reign's in that price range too on gumtree, they are also in the Cape, I have mailed the sellers. I would prefer the Giant over the Mongoose, but Medium 'goose looks in great condition.

I'm 1.75m tall.

I am 1.78m and wished I was 1.75m so that I did not have to sell my Medium Shova ST ... Medium would/should be the right size for you with a nice and compact stem.

If you are hell bent on a small, there was a small Mbuzi at "trail and tar" Tokai the last time I looked .... and brand new!

I'm 1.72. I had a small Mbuzi and it was way too small for me. A Small Mbuzi is VERY small.

Hairy, I'm looking for a medium, I only quoted the small specs as I couldn't find the medium spec on the Morewood to compare with the Giant.

How much are you wanting for your Shova?

My Shova has long since flown the coop and was replaced with a MOTTO.
