I would even leave the cockpit as is, my concern is on the wheels, avids, and the fox fork...that bike needs a pike!

The wheels are actually not bad. Take a beating.

Avids - Meh. Too many divided opinions.

Pike is the bomb but triple the price of the specced FOX.

For an out the box AM option that Zesty 327 is good value.

They retailed for 28k from the start BTW - Buycycle doing some creative marketing.

Yebo 650B Carbon Sapz Endruo. Don't tell Nige he doesn't like them :)

Damn, that is one Spaz I could see myself on.

Actually the 3rd, I already own 2 Spaz jump bikes, but you know what I mean. The first 'real' Spaz bike I could see myself riding.

Many happy miles on the new rig

my mistake, was the north american super D national championships which craig won, twice, although not sure if the first time was on a trance 29

dont let this put you off though, that yeti has a lot more local support and looks way better

I think the first time was on a 29er Anthem and a 120mm fork

You really will not need a new bike to partake in any of the local events.

Best option would be to ride the odd event, 1st see if you like the format/vibe etc before dropping cash on another bike (who knows, you may hate it). If you love the format and feel that your bike is holding you back then you can consider another bike and at least then you'll have a good idea of what you want/need to make your ride more enjoyable.

For now though I'd say stick with what you have, your bike is more than capable.

{Edit} The only thing I would maybe consider is a dropper post, if your bike doesn't already have one.

Modifying a Zula to try #Enduro isn't necessarily impossible, because you're not going to immediately be bombing through rock gardens at huge speed or doing 1m drops at first. I'd say:

  • Slap on a 120mm fork (guessing you have a 100mm on there at the moment). This will slacken your head angle a bit and slow things down. Of course there's the whole frame warranty story, how old is your frame?
  • Get a shorter (60mm) stem and wider (740mm bars)
  • Replace your current tyres with the widest set which will fit the rear. I'm guessing the Zula will be a bit tight so you may only be able to go up to 2.25. In the front (which is more important) however you can plonk on a 2.35 or 2.4.

To be honest, most #Enduro riders in SA don't need the big bikes they're riding unless they take it really seriously. You can always try it out with the above and sell the fork, bars and stem again if it doesn't work for you. Actually, you'll probably want to keep the stem and bars either way!

Also, this. Try it out first anyway!

Then, if you really like it, change things up in this order:

  • Bar & Stem
  • Tyres
  • Fork (if it comes to that)

When I got the Zula I already put a 120mm fork on :)  it's the 27.5 Zula and got her in March this year.

erm.. I have a 45mm stem on..

will have to check bar width

I have 2.25 tyres on.. (I think.. if I can remember correctly)

Gen ... you dont need to modify ANYTHING ... just pull in ... but get some knee guards like i said in my reply in the other thread.

120mm Zula with 650B wheels a 45mm stem and 2.25 tyres is more than adequate for #ENDURO in KZN.

If you dont have a dropper post and are not keen to shell out 4k for one - jsut make sure you either have an allen key with you or a quick release seatpost clamp so you can drop your seat a bit for the race stages.
