Hi fellow hubbers.I have taken the big step and entered 70.3 2014.to get me through winter swimming and more important not to drown I bought a wetsuite.(great service from Terry at X Terra).I understand that wetsuites and clorine are not the best of mates.I try to swim in the suite every now and then just to get used to the feeling(what a great feeling).I immediately rinse it well under the shower inside and out.I do not want the suite to disintegrate before the race next year.Am I paranoid or would the suite be OK.I rinse it inside and out sommer by standing under the shower as I come out of the pool.

As long as it is rinsed with tap water, it should be fine.

If I do a lot of diving in a swimming pool (scuba) to assist newbies, I always wash my wetsuits with Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo....much cheaper than the fancy wetsuit shampoos and works better imo.

Try and stick to training in open air pools rather than indoor pools and swim at the end of the day before they put in the chlorine. More chlorine in the indoor pools throughout the day, open air pools have less towards the end of the day as the sunlight kills it.

As others have said, just rinse in fresh water after use. Occasionally soak it for 20 minutes in a solution of Miltons (sterilizer) and water. Dry it flat, not on a hanger and it will last years.

What we used to do with our surfing wetsuits was put them in a washing machine every now and again, without any soap etc., to rinse all the salt out.

worked well.
