BREAKING:

Scores of sharks are currently involved in a feeding frenzy off Port Elizabeth's southern beaches.

Bathers and surfers are urged to exit the water immediately at Kings Beach, Humewood, Hobie and Pollock - until further notice.

Hope thats sorted before April

If not, I'm sure everyone will have super quick swim times.

Where did you get that info?

PE is small and word gets around quickly - it won't be on the freeway - you will turn off the seaview rd and do a bit of climbing - I reckon looking at around 800 to 900m ascent per loop so 1800 in total but some nice descents thrown in! Nice scenic route!

I take the hub as gospel - the organisers will check their facts here before making public ;)

Thanks Garfield. That is a real boost to my confidence.

Off topic: Are you doing the Maselspoort Tri this weekend?

ADe no I am not. I have requested them a few times to have the turning point for the bike outside the resort but they wont change it.

I am not going up and down that piece of at road the resort entrance 4 times. Not only is it dangerous due to incoming traffic but it also cant be good for my disk wheel to go over speed bumps at 60km/hour.

Also apparently the water is still siff (but this I only heard from another person)

I am rather gonna do some track work. I am lining up for Midlands Ultra...

I want to, just because its close to home, but I was also wondering about the bike route.

Unfortunately I will not be doing Midlands. Its just to far/expensive/to much of a hassle to trek down for the weekend two weeks before I go on leave.

Well it is definitely a challenging course. Weather also looks promising.

Apperently with the new route, they can cater for extra 300 entries...maybe its all about the $$$

I really don't see how drafting can make a difference whether is 2 or 3 laps.... Getting lapped by pros doesn't make me draft as they are too fast in any case... The only thing I can think of is safety. When the pros are on their last lap they lap us and we lap others so its a case of 3 - 4 people wanting to pass at the same time.

2,000 People spread out a lot more over 4km of swimming than 3,000+ over 2km. If you want a draft fest then go do EL70.3

Anyways I look forward to a change of route. makes the 10th year exciting

Only a few hours now and then all will be revealed.

I also can't see how changing the course will make it any safer or more controllable.I know there were lots of coplaining about the drafting.Maybe the hills will make it easier to enforce.

I know there is drafting in 70.3. Full IM not so sure. Anyways the pros in groups are about 2 meters apart at most (not the 12 or whatever) so they should start to focus there. Last year about 5 guys where chasing Ronnie. I swear they where all drafting no more than 2 metres apart.......

I have a simple suggestion... Refs must ride little scooters traveling at 50km at most... These scooters must be silent... Problem solved

Didn't you get a red card for drafting?

Littering  long story. I was innocent  . Unfortunately IM rules state they don't go to court.

I had a warning for running with ear phones.thought you only couldn't use them on the bike.

That should have been a straight red card. Read the rules. The very problem with IM is that every ref is doing things at his own discretion.

Some oke's get red carded, other get warnings. I have seen refs stopping guys littering forcing them to pick up their trash and throwing it away and then allowed them to continue without a card. I have also experienced being red carded for dropping a water sachet 2 metres after the tear drop litter cut off zone.

They are very inconsistent. They also don't adapt to the situation. Volunteers were handing out sachets 10 metres from the litter cut off zone due to the massive number of athletes on the 70.3 course - they just could not handle the numbers. When you get to that stage you don't really think anymore.

Anyways it is what it is. Technically I did litter and I got DQ'ed. Wrote a letter to PW and until today have not received feedback.

Eish....that's harsh

I was 'sternly cautioned' this year when a dude I did not know decided to cycle next to me (about 3m to my left at the back of the University) on his mtb and have a chat. I know the rules do not allow outside assistance and technically I could have been DQ'ed.

This was at hour 16 into the race and I was at hop/shuffle/cringe/walk/swear pace on my last lap of my 7hr20 marathon.

I know there is drafting in 70.3.

There was minimal drafting at 70.3 this year due to the changes they made.

Saw a little this year at IMSA on the stretch down the coast into the wind.

Remember, you can't call it a PB if you draft.
