So boys... Lets assume the weather will be OK. What times do you have in mind?

My gold medal time will be anything between 14 & 15.

Main aim is to finish.

Ill be happy for anything between 12:30 and 14 hours. All weather depending.

Not trying to scare you guys or make you negative but if the east is blowing prepare yourself now mentally for a slower bike time

Fabes what is the temp like in the evening? Will a tri top be enough or should one pack a wind breaker?

Goal 1 (near perfect race): 9h54Goal 2 (windy / doesn't quite happen on the day): Sub-11 hoursThere. Made my goal public. Let's see where I end up...Whatever the outcome, and if I end up as a mushroom cloud on Marine Drive, I promise to enjoy the moment and finish in whatever time possible with a smile on my face, honouring those who sacrificed a lot just for me to be there and the athletes whose goal is simply to finish. Oh, and Goal 3: get absolutely smashed at the afterparty on Monday!

My main goal is to run the marathon in under 4 hours. That will mean I cannot go too hard on the bike. I have 11 hours in mind and if I can do a sub 4 marathon I believe I would have cycled smart enough to achieve this or to get very close...

But then again the wind can blow east, you can have mechanical issues and you can screw up your nutrition which will all add to your time.

A Finish

I'm watching u.... and then going to use your time to motivate myself in zurich...and zurich is easier apparently.... so pleez take your time... :whistling:

Nothing like some friendly rivalry to keep u / me running instead of walking :w00t:

Its important to have a best case, specific, goal in mind, and visualise yourself achieivng that many times this week. The mind is more powerful than your body, and all the top athletes especially top Ironmen will tell you the mind gives up long before your body will. If you can convince your mind it will achieve something, the body will follow.

However, the key with Ironman, is to not let small set backs and things that don't go your way ruin your mental state. There are just too many variables and the race is too long. If you get a puncture that adds 10 minutes to your bike time, so what... Use the 10 minutes you are fixing your tire to smash an extra gel or two and some extra fluids while your HR is lower and you will probably make up the 10 minutes anyway in the run by keeping smart and properly fuelled. Don't panic and try make up time lost to mechanicals (or the weather).

Take everything in your stride, accept it and move onto your next goal. On the run especially, make lots of small goals and promises to yourself - eg, promise yourself that you will keep running to the next aid station, where you can reward yourself with a coke and a small walk. Then, new goal is not to walk before the next aid station, or til you are past your wife, etc. The end result is not important. Keep doing this, and before you know it all those small goals will add up to a great result...

For the experienced guys - what is a good calculation of finishing time from half to full (provided weather conditions are similar)
