Wildlife: The wildlife on the reserve includes zebra, jackal, duiker, kudu, impala, blue wildebeest, blesbuck, red hartebeest, ostrich, giraffe and sable. The rich bird life will keep bird lovers busy for hours on end.

Actually, because of their behaviour, Kudu are easy to poach (even selectively) Mostly these are poached by snare, but that would not really indicate why it was dragged somewhere else as it would be easy to set up a snare where you can work the carcass as well, without additional work needed to move it. Shooting it (even with bow and arrow) would also be ridiculously easy in GK as the animals are ridiculously tame.

Last time there were reports of poaching at GK it was denied vehemently ... that was a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if they are going to tell the public anything about this?

Let me ask you guys something else - when is the last time you saw the Gnu on Klapperkop?

Thanks - no mistaking the zebra, giraffe and ostriches though! Those big buck are quite tame, maybe that's the problem. Wildebeest pretty wildt though.

Is there a "friends of Groenkloof" group?

ok i got a reply from the head of groenkloof conservation

Yes we know about the dead Kudu and its hard to tell if it was poached or not. The fact is that someone did remove the meat from the carcass and then left it for the jackal to scavenge on(all the evidence removed) Animals dies from time to time on the reserve that we found, but still with meat on the carcass, this one the meat was removed(sharp cuts on the skin).

We are not sure who have removed the meat.

Yes we are aware of the muggings in the Fountains Valley resort, we managed the trails section in the Fountains. We also have erected warning signs to inform the people not to cycle alone but rather in groups until we have sorted the security issues. We have also send a message out on GroenKloofMTB twitter account about the muggings. We further do foot patrols on a daily basis and wants to get the Metro Police mountain bike squad involved to do policing.

We would also appreciate help form the public to report any unwanted people and incidents like this one to us to follow it up. The numbers were they can report incidents is to myself on 082 789 1399 or to our standby number 079 498 3647.

We appreciate your concern and we will do our outmost best to keep our reserves and trails safe.

Agreed, but I think these days it's cheaper to go out and buy a firearm on the black market than it is to buy a kudu full of meat? The OP did say it looked to have been shot. I'm sure if they all pooled their begging money for the day, they could pick up a firearm capable of downing a kudu?

Remember, they just need to wound it enough to stop it from running too far, I'm not sure they'd have been concerned with the "ethical hunting" issues associated with wounding the animal.

Having said this though, I would not be surprised if some idiot poached it for biltong, this is Blue Bull country we're talking about. A couple of guys get too much beer in them one night and decide to go hunting? It's plausible.

BLUE BULL COUNTRY YES SO WHATS YOUR PROBLEM WITH THAT
