Who are you flying with? I always thought SAA only allows 20kg for sporting equipment.

When I flew back to Germany the one time I had a bike, the asshat at the checkin counter was trying to give me a hard time, even though I was under the allowed weight. He was probably just fishing for a bribe, but I played it dumb and he eventually let me through.

Carbon... fancy ne!

hahaha! I guess cardboard is just a different form of carbon.

For those interested, a double ply cardboard bike box weighs about 3kg.

Ja, am worried about the weight issues. My Canfield weights a tonne and I'd like to bring a spare set of tyres with because I am going to be doing more riding than all of you-yes, that's a challenge!

My bike weighs about 13.6 so I should be OK. Pretty much flying with all my "heavy" clothes (jeanpant, hoodie etc) and then my box will just be bike stuff, riding kit and a few shirts, shorts and undies. Will also squeeze handluggage to the max possible.

I reckon two sets of clothes plus one on the flight will be fine with a few extra shirts and enough clean undies. I'll be riding with my spd's and wearing my 5.10's for casual just in case I feel like flat pedals all of a sudden then they're there.

Can we just go already???

iirc Hayley's bike weighs around 25kg. That's the ktm (aka Fat Bastard), not the intense
