Calling on you gamers

I was sorely tempted by an N64 with Goldeneye and Mario 64 bundled a few days back.

If I bought it would I be getting busy wrecking some great memories was the worry that stopped a purchase.

Well that a potentially enraged wife and a slight lack of funds...

I see there's a few retro consoles with games available on the interwebs. VERY tempted to order a few - like the GameBoy, Famicom, SNES, Mega Drive, but my budget won't allow it at the moment, and I think my wife would also be potentially enraged if I went through with something like that, lol. We have an almost 3 months old baby girl, so, priorities first

Emulators on PC ftw.

If you're not hellbent on being a purist. There are some great retro plug and play emulator consoles available that won't break the bank. Gaming goodness of yesteryear in a modern console that meets contemporary standards like HDMI outputs etc. Some of which even work with old cartridges. But the cheaper ones usually have a bunch of preloaded roms for good measure. My favourite ones are those freestanding all in one arcade machines. Which include the classic 2 players joystick and button layouts from the 80's and a CRT screen. All wrapped in melamine goodness. The only thing missing is the coin slots. Pricey though.

Nintendo recently announced the SNES Classic which will be bundled with 21 games. Will retail for roughly 80 eurodollars, so that might be something you could consider.

I see it was announced, yes. Could be a great seller. I bought an AtGames Sega Mega-Drive last year which also came with built in games, so it would make sense for me to get a SNES Classic mini when it comes out, but a part of me tells me to rather save that dosh for a rainy day.

Rainy days come and go, nostalgia, now that my friend, is a precious commodity. Ever dependable nostalgia, always there for you...

...yeah, maybe save the money

Bought this the other day from Game. It's not the original of course, but my 8-bit gaming nostalgia fix is pretty much sorted, lol.

It looks like its straight out of the 90's. What did it cost and what are some of the titles?

HD out? Cartridge only?

Cost R600. Not 100% sure about HD out, but can double check when I get home. 500 built in games with 132-in-one cart.

Super Mario Bros, Ninja Turtles, Battle City, Twin Bee, Contra, Chip n Dale rescue rangers, Tetris, Circus Charlie, etc. that's all I can remember off the top of my head right now, lol.

What I'm playing now

I'm about halfway through but I'll give this game a solid 8.

In some ways its simply superb but there small things inherent in the games design which prevent it from being one of the best games ever.
