Alpe d'Huez 1860m

13.8km at 8.1% (+1135m / 2500ft)

Record time: 37' 35"by Pantani 1995 (Armstrong 38' 01" in 2001, 39'41'' in 2004)

Alpe d'Huez is the climb of mythical status for cyclists. Since 1952 it has been climbed 23 times by the Tour de France. Usually at the end of a long mountainous stage many a battle has been waged round the 21 hairpins.

The 2004 Tour de France saw the Alpe d'Huez climb used for a time trial for the first time.

Don't think they'll climb this again? It's getting done twice on the same day this year!

Not at that speed ...hehe

Did they not climb it the year Cadel won...end of that short stage that Conto attacked with Andy early on?

Would love to see that time compared to these guys...2 speeds.

Even more amazing is the bikes they where on...

Those records are going to stand for a long time......

The new era of cycling is probably not going to be as exciting with regards to fast attacking climbing?

For all the right reasons though...

Armstrongs TT win was started from a point just before the actual climb, in Bourg Doisan. The other times were recorded as the riders took the left hand bend which is the start of the climb. That said, its a ruthless climb. Worst part is from 4km to 3km to go. For Joe Public compact crankset is needed! I think the pro's use a 23 rear sprocket. Seen the pro bikes with 180mm cranks fitted as well (Ulrichs bike)

I read an article which said Armstrong used a 39/53 crank and 14-23 at the back. That's just incredible even while on drugs!

Every one on that list was doped up. So yes, if on dope can ride those times again.
true... the question is... if everyone is doped... will they beat it?

If you dope?

Just saying... no matter what, that guys must still have talent no?
