It neads proper heat treating or the welds just re-crack. Tried having my rear triangle alu welded at Castweld, lasted a week then cracked worse than before. Ended up buying a new swingarm...

Ty for the replies.

So there is no other way to fix alu frame ? :(

No that's not true. I've had an Alu frame welded and I rode it for a good while before retiring it. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing and you might luck out. You might also strike out like the guys above depending on where the crack is. If it's on a suspension linkage or head tube for example you might want to steer clear cos a break there could lead catastrophic frame failure and that will ruin your day.

Don't spend too much money cos there's every chance it could crack again.

nope, its a specialised job, alu has to be welded in a vacuum free from oxygen if I don't have my brains scrambled. Very tricky to weld.

Huh? Do alu welding everyday and have never had to do that. And no not just a quick weld here and there. Some of the jobs are tanks that transport flammable liquids. Certification is needed on welds like these so its not joe average welding.

This is not a welding machine. This is a space waster.

Please direct me to the right one :thumbup:

Buying a welding machine to weld a crack( and u don't know how to weld, I am assuming this since you asking about a cheap and nasty welding machine ) makes zero sense, there are many places that will weld that for R300 and problem solved

Sounds like a Giant Anthem? They have lifetime warranties on the frame and normally don't argue about replacing.

@ZION

TY for reply

Thats the price of a new dual frame :unsure: ,tryna get the dude back on bike with minimal costs.

So no cheap decent welders. TIG welders even more expensive ?

Thnx , my sense was that cant see a welder being a bad thing to have.Could fix the frame this time and if it happens again i just saved 600 bucks,fix another bike if it happens. My stoop awnings need a weld here and there,think it will pay itself off. I have welded before ..well stuck metal together with bird poo.... .

The way i see it is couldnt service my own bike before now i can,didnt know how to anodize parts.. now i can...

Sure i can learn to weld too ..

But i hear you 100% :thumbup:
