Yep the very tippy-top.

Too bad so sad, I imagine that would be quite something on a bike.

Not that I would tempt it but are there any legal ramifications of making it to the top with a bike if it was at all possible?

Yo.

You can ride from Deer Park to the Lower Cable Station all legal, but from there you'll have to put the bike on your shoulder and hike up Platteklip Gorge. There truly isn't a route that is even remotely rideable. It is steep and tough enough with a backpack. It is about a 2 hour climb and about 800m elevation gain. Once on top, you'll have to carry the bike to the Upper Cable Station, about half a km further. There will be so many tourists on a decent clear day that they'll smack you over the head if you try to ride there. Once at the Upper Cable Station, you'll have to turn around and carry the bike back down because the Cable Car won't take you and the bike. If you do ride up there, the Rangers will be waiting for you to confiscate your bike, fine you and get your mug into the local newspapers. Also, in cyberspace, Hubbers will slaughter you for stuffing up good ralations with SANParks and endangering riding in the park, a national park, a world heritage site and one of the natural wonders of the world.

However, if you are a truly gifted trials rider (Danny McKaskill, Hans Rey etc.) I recommend you contact SANParks, the Cableway Company and Cape Town Tourism and see if you can arrange a movie shoot up there. They might just fall for it because of the free publicity for them. I won't bet any of my own money on that though.

Otherwise, don't even try.

I guess you could get there from the back, up the Constantia Nek road. But not condoned by SANParks. So the below applies:

Would be an awesome ride though. Platteklip Gorge down

It's not legal, but i have ridden up the jeep track from Constantia Nek, and then across the top to the top of Kasteelspoort riding on the old train tracks. Fun, but as mentioned illegal.

I am very tempted to catch the Cable Car up and ride across to Maclear's Beacon and then down Smuts Track to the jeep track and down. But I reckon my days of breakin the law are over... It will be a great ride though!
