Hi guys

Out of interest how exactly does the timing work for this race? My times were

Swim 0:41

Cycle 2.48

Run 1.30

Total time 5:18

This would indicate that I took nearly 20 minutes in the transitions. I kept my stop watch running the whole race and it registered 5.08 which is quite a bit off. Did anyone else find a discrepancy? Not that it really matters - I'm just interested

that is weird.....my total time was spot but the split times were different due to their measurement an mine. Strange one as modern stopwatches are accurate... Great run by the way....it's where I lost all my time

Mine was spot on correct.

Just an FYI - the run was cut short because of all the mess from whoever partied there the night before. There was glass at the end of the route out to the lagoon that couldnt be cleared in time so they cleared what they could and had to cut it short

. That's fair enough I guess....that mess was unbelievable by the way....most of Durban beachfront looks like that on weekends....disgusting

Strange my time as per my watch was 7minutes shorter than the official result. Swim time was in the ball park, bike spot on and Run about a half hour longer, but according to the official result I spent about 40min in transition! So for my purposes I will go with my watches time and if anyone asks I had a hell of a half marathon

Out of interest how much time do you think your transitions took all together?

The timers reckon 8 minutes for both and I know I took about 15 as I had to look for my bag after swim...I think I have found the problem... It seems a lot of ppl had 3 minutes in T1 allocated to them an the remaining time allocated to the swim leg....swim took me 34 minutes incl run...they allocated me 39 minutes an 3 minutes transition time making 42.... Should be 34 plus 8....minor issue though

Did anyone record the race on a gps watch?

Would love to see the exact routes and lengths with stats.

Cant attach my GPX file but here are the distances according to my Suunto (generally pretty accurate for swim distances)

Swim:  1815m (my wife measured 1900m+, but she got bashed off course trying to exit...)

"Transition Run" from swim & T1:  1.27km

Bike:  88.33km

Run: 17.61km

Total:  109.2km

Close enough to a full" 70.3 for me...   especially with the run to T1!

My official times were spot on with my watch, bearing in mind that the run to T1 was included in the "Swim".

Awesome bike course.
