What to do? I am new to cycling (have only done about 800km on tar and 10km on single track since Dec 2012).

I do this mainly to be active. My existing bike is to big for me, and I am looking at buying another that are actually sized for me... I am looking at the above, as they are in the same price class. I am also open to any advice or other suggestions in the same price class...

If i can get clarity on soft 26" or hard 29" it would narrow my search significantly... post-46232-0-09246800-1371666534_thumb.jpg

Where do you ride and what kind of riding are you planning on doing? That will help narrow it down alot.

There was a bit of a 26er DS vs 29er HT thread that had some good advice over here

Ok here's the deal - get a 29er. They sell easier if you don't want it anymore, they are really taking over the bicycle market and you'll be happy with it. Walk into any LBS and what do you see - 29ers everywhere.

Secondly, there is no better value for money bicycle than the Momsen AL329 R type. It's future proof and has a lot of room for upgrading in the future. The standard AL329 is definitely not a bad deal, but I can't see why not spend R2k more to save SO much more.

I have the merida tfs 300, big nine, been very happy with it, great looking bike and good value for money. I am in the process of upgrading all major components - purely because I am riding more now. I looked at the momsen range as well, also great value for ur budget.

I chose the merida, because I just love the frame work. Definitely go 29er ht in either. The merida big nine tfs 500 basically comes with a better front shock, so I would go for that :)

29er...

Yes, hardtail 29er.

However that said, you can get some very good deals on 26er bikes at the moment.

Has to be said the fs Merida is a hell of a bargain and has won value bike of the year in several tests.

I'm a big DS 6er fan for pure fun and for thrashing about. Would recommend the one twenty. Great frame, double air shocks and a killer price for under 10k.

But if you're looking at farm road, jeeps tracks and that kind if thing then the 29er would probabally be the go for you. The momsens are killer, would go that for sure.

One thing though, a set of big hoops are not the same as a dual suspension no matter how many people seem to post it.

Also agree with this regarding the Merida and Momsen though.
