Thanks for all the feedback. Seems I will have to go get it checked out.

My vascular sergeon also sees it as a concern as it is a possible clotting area.

URGH...just as I was growing some balls to do some jumps!

Any of you had this injury before?

Did you get it checked out?

If not, what did you do?

I think this adds to my injury list, well it is either that or one of the other:

Getting an injury in winter just sucks SO much more and not being able to take 'over the counter' anti inflammatories is leaving me super restless and causing sleepless nights.

Torn mine 3 weeks ago as well... Starting to give me quite a bit of discomfort so will have to check it out properly!

You end up doing silly exercises making you wonder whether your physio has her head on the right way. Takes months to heal (but at least you can ride!) - but now I can say at least my shoulder is better, more stable and my shoulder blade is not just moving along with my shoulder - it is actually starting to do the supporting work.

It beats getting an op, unless the op is really required.

Hi Hayley,

Long time.

Yes, I tore Infraspinatus/supraspinatus muscles in my right rotator cuff when I was 26. Failing to recognise how important the rotator cuff is in stabilizing the whole shoulder and it's involvement in all shoulder/arm movements, plus the typical 20's Chuck Norris attitude resulted in a very annoying painful injury which persists until today and interferes with a lot of stuff. Do not leave it; have it checked out properly and sorted if necessary.

True... quite important muscles those!!!

That injury will be a serious b***h in the future if you dont get it checked...

had the op on the left side. injury from too much gym and too much paragliding. took 2 years to recover after the opp. it needs lots and lots of rest

always leave opps as the last resort

I suffered what the physio rates is a grade 1 sprain of the RC with a sprain of the sterno-clavicular ligaments too.

It's been 10 days now with physio 2-3 times a week (basically exercises and then acupuncture, electro-stimulus and massage) and it is starting to improve.

Still crap myself when I lift the arm up above shoulder height without support, but it is improving.

Running and riding on flat surfaces have been fine with virtually no pain so I can at least keep fit.

But my question is now - what was the soonest you guys hit the technical stuff? Not talking serious downhill, but more bumpy singletrack with some berms and fast sections / small drop-offs?

I desperately want to ride the next Dirtopia Enduro on 24 November (31 days away), but my physio says I must put technical riding out of my head for at least another 2-3 weeks. Re-injury could ruin my summer and even end in surgery, which will just destroy me.

Any positive uplifting comments? (I suspect the response is going to echo the physio's  )

Is there anyone that's had a rotator cuff injury that's healed and has had possible nerve damage? I thought I just aggravated my shoulder a bit, but since last Thursday I get shooting pains down my arm, originating from my shoulder area, and then my arm and hand goes numb. It'll be fine for a while and then just something simple as turning the steering wheel or picking up a mug of coffee will aggravate it again.

Have an appointment with the physio this afternoon (originally made the appointment when I thought I just aggravated the muscles again), so will see what she recommends.

That sounds like an impingement to me! Possible brachial plexus involvement?

Posted

The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that conducts signals from the spinal cord, which is housed in the spinal canal of the vertebral column (or spine), to the shoulder, arm and hand. These nerves originate in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth cervical (C5-C8), and first thoracic (T1) spinal nerves, and innervate the muscles and skin of the chest, shoulder, arm and hand. Brachial plexus injuries, or lesions, are caused by damage to those nerves.[1][2][3]

Brachial plexus injuries, or lesions, can occur as a result of shoulder trauma, tumours, or inflammation.

Posted

Signs and Symptoms may include a limp or paralyzed arm, lack of muscle control in the arm, hand, or wrist, and lack of feeling or sensation in the arm or hand. Although several mechanisms account for brachial plexus injuries, the most common is nerve compression or stretch.

Ugh, that doesn't sound very good. And most of those symptoms you've described, is what I've been experiencing :(
