ok - i had a look at the site...just because it interests me...and the whole way through the process it says 190...even on the final checkout page it displays 190 in two seperate places with a very small indicator of the extra cost. This could definitely be presented and handled better....it looks like they are trying to hide the charges and promote cheaper prices...underhanded to say the least

That picture quite clearly indicates that the payment method of credit card is attracting a fee which is in contravention of Mastercard and Visa rules. They will have a seriously difficult time trying to talk their way out of that.

If the amount was a separate line item included in the transaction total before the payment page and not directly next to both the card logos, they may have got away with it.

Thread title shouldnt have "scam" so much as "mild annoyance" - but that wont sell newspapers.

Scam noun \ˈskam\ : a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation.

Sure looks like a scam to me...

kind of why i am interested. In all occasions when we have applied for merchant status for clients to setup online shops..we have had to jump through flaming hoops to get it approved...and this was a big no no..

in addition they should indicate Transaction Currency, Refund Policy and all sorts of other stuff for it to be approved

That would be "racing snakes" then?

I like CC, they answered queries when I had them and usually get the results up super-fast.

If they are wrong to add the credit card charge, then they will just make the headline price the credit card price, and maybe discount something off that for other methods of payment.

Seems to have gone over their heads that Entrytime also charge the same fee.

I think, and I might be wrong, we've gone off topic since about page 3. Wasn't the question more to why different types of entries have different costs, e.g. you pay more if you pay per credit card instead of cash of eft, and the legality of that? I for one wasn't questioning the price that the timing company charges the organiser.

nope its about the price being advertised as one and then when you get to pay you see a different price.......Last time i had to do that was back when we had GST and i had to manually calculate in my head how many chappies i could afford to buy

Then there's two different tracks in this thread, because the one was about if you can charge extra for using a credit card and the other was whether the price advertised includes everything.

It kind of sounds stupid to charge extra for one part of a product. Imagine if you had to pay R0 to enter, but then marshalls R10 + traffic R20 + cooldrink R10 + charity R10 .....

That is the correct way of calculating your entry fee:

Marshalls R 5

Coke R 5

Traffic permission R 5

CC ADD R 30

Chip timing R 18

On Line entry R 35 (or CC calculation)

Admin costs R 15

Medal R 20

Province and CSA R6

Calendar fee R 15

Venue rent R 10

Prize Money R 30

Timing company travel R 5 (THEY CHARGE R 6 @KILOMETER)

If required accommodation R15

CSA officials R 15

Medical Services R 15

Route Marking R 10

Insurance R 10

Safety R 10

Now you need a sponsor or you are going to pay in.

And the list goes on. Then add money for profit and money for a charity because we have to have a charity so that we can invest the money in something else than cycling.

Like some big race justifying their monopoly with all the charity work they do. Do you see Rugby spend their cash on charities?

Only sport that turns this kind of money and give it away.

Cycling is a lekka cash cow.

that is not under dispute here...you got the wrong side of things

In the end it is most probably an honest mistake that was made. But of course in the land of the blind (cyclist) there is a lot of one eyed kings.

Cycling is a pack sport. Once they smell the blood they all attack.

I see a lot of brave cyclist willing to boycot events because they feel done in when it comes to sost. Can I ask, how many of you have been involved with presenting a race? NONE. I can see it from your comments. If you see what effort it takes and what costs are involved in presenting an event, your blindfolds may just slip off to give you a shot of reality. I have been involved in Cycling events for 14 years now, but this year will be the last. I am sick and tired of spending my time and effort to arrange a great event supporting a fantastic charity, just to be insulted by fault finding low lives.

So please go ahead, boycot races, most of the people moaning do not do races in any case, most of the big clubs with the large membership numbers do not even present races, ask them why.... The reason is that the big clubs are not willing to risk being criticized by YOU. They take your money and may host training rides, but do very little else in sponsorship or supporting charities.

Want races? organise it yourself! See how you can do the best for your charity, not take any money and still present a safe enjoyable race!!!

Good Luck

Wow..who pissdd on your battery...way to open up a month old thread all guns blazing. This thread had nothing to do with event organisation, it is all about how champion chop presented, or should we say mis-represented the actual price. A lot of people on this forum are very actively involved in event organisation and know full well all the costs and implications

Agree, someone not in a good mood today. Way off the mark comment.

Everybody is complaining about the R20 extra, I'm still pissed about their seeding screw ups!!!! I currently have a sub 10 seeding index and on every damn cc race I end up in the last bunches. So I sent them n "nice" email expressing my feelings about their useless system, only to be told the exact same stupid story: we can fix it at registration. Its become like a second nature to know they've screwed up my race number before I even received the email. I have decided that the Carousel would be my LAST cc race and I will now refer to them as championshit!

Check out entries for Karoo 2 coast by online.co.za, no doubt very transparent what they charge.... A cool 10% on top of EVERYTHING. You need a day license? No problem- we will take 10% on that, you want a t-shirt? No problem, lets make that another 10% "admin fees".

Under FAQ on K2C site : Q: What are the entry fees?

A: R310.00 per rider

Not quite- make it minimum + R35.50

At least they dont call it Visa charges!

I know this thread is so yesterday, but seen you gave it some life I have this to say.

As an organiser, us so called low lives (sic) are your customers. the very same customers who pay you money for your efforts so that you can give it to charity. If you had taken the time to read the point behind the thread it's about Champion Chip not about the organisers.

Maybe as an organiser you should be taking the information from this thread to use it wisely on your next event, so that us low lives will support it. i.e. if you use Campionshit then you better keep your day job, because based on the turn out at Dunblane winter Dash, the organiser are hugely out of pocket.

There are huge amounts of us low lives that won't support an event being timed by campionchip.

Know what your customers wants and needs are before you start name calling and ranting on a public forum like this.
