I hope this event is still going ahead, would hate to drive all the way, only to find its cancelled, but I suppose we could still do the Bains trails while we are there.

Hate to say it, but sometimes common sense should prevail over emotions. At the moment I only see damage to both trails and bikes. Of course money, attitude and legs can and will prevail.

I know, I know but I would also hate it if nobody showed up for the organisers well planned event.

Agreed. But it won't be me. Two times full services (my wife and I) with likely parts replacements at least R1000. Plus fuel getting there, plus entry fee, plus mud in car ... and, and. That's why I say "hate to say it". Call me "homo economicus".

My justification

1.Free Entry

2. Car pool save on petrol costs

3. I've invested in bike rack to avoid mud in car.

4. That's why I have a backup 26er MTB (the Mrs bike when she is in the mood) keep the 29er clean & shiny in the showroom for the sunny days.

5. Part replacement is a myth, I did W2W Open day 2 weeks ago, muddy & wet as hell & rainy at times, yet to replace a part.

You're a better person than me. My BB is still grinding after last week's ride at Grabouw. Grabouw is water and sand - not mud. Mud in car is a function of my bib, not my bike. I have to clean and service two bikes afterwards - my wife insists on riding if I ride. Call it a bit of a disincentive. I'll be doing Koeberg and cycle lane - relatively mud free but admittedly not really MTB.

good on you mate, if i stay home tomorrow & it rains I wont even bother going out but a MTB race gives a different sort of motivation.

Reminds me, I should pack in a change of clothes for the post race showers.

Well was that fun or what. Started dry but it was wet & muddy & it rained a bit. Route was shortened to 36km, winner finished in 1:27'ish.

I do however feel Sorry for that trails, it got thrashed...proper!!!

Was the 50km shortened to 36km?

yes they said 40km, due to it being too dangerous. But most of us finished round about 36km, I was kaking off so no complaints from my side.
