I believe a person such as Carinus is what CSA needs and must extend his contract beyond the end of the month. In the few months as COO of CSA he is bringing about change for the cyclist (yes you and I) the processes he has to deal with is not ideal hence he has to implement new and fresh one's into the office and he has to deal with board members that want to get rid of him.

Other than Carinus who else from the office has visited the provinces and local races to see first hand what is happening.

People talk about the license fee CSA is generating and the use thereof, what about the finances required to run a proper office structure, get the license issue dealt with organize proper training camps for ALL NATIONAL SQUADS, train and access more managers officials etc, where does this money come from seeing that CSA hs no official sponsor on board to pay for these? I stand under correction but I believe the PPA actually pays or donates most of the money for our COO salary because CSA has not got all the cash we assume they have.

Instead of moaning I suggest we put pressure on the CSA board to appoint CL into a permanent position with full authority to implement change for all within CSA.

Pantani you have the correct license, people only hear what they want when it suits them. The only negative part about the licenseing issue is the "ONLINE ISSUE" it should never have been implemented in tandem with the roll-out to the masses.

With congress happening in Aprill and PPA still deciding whether they in or out of CSA. I dont think Carinus could have extended his contract till the end of next year.

Carinus has extended his contract until end of next year.

Can we get confirmation on this one?????

I had a meeting with him on Monday to discuss the Vet's and Ladies SuperSeries, and he told me directly.  I'm sure he will confirm when he is online.

Edit: Okay, I went back to check my facts with Carinus.  As it stands, he sees no reason why the contract will not be extened, and is happy that it will happen.  My bad, I have misquoted him.

It is a pity that people still judge individuals on their appearance.
BTW Carinus is the COO of CSA.

I have come to know Carinus as a genuine person with a strong character and beliefs. And most importantly:a passion for cycling.

Cannot be said for a lot of other characters in cycling who's main interest is their ego's and self importance.

Hope Carinus goes to serve cycling for a long time.

As I said in my post' date=' I am sure he is a great guy, and I have no doubt that as you say he is a strong character.

My point, is that he is the COO (thanks for the correction) of a major sporting body that deals with millions of rands of yours and my money. We as share holders in CSA rely on him to grow the business/sport to all of our benefits. He should dress and act the part. Quirks and eccentricities do not sit well with people who write multi million rand cheques.

It really depends on whether you are talking to a stuffy suit at a bank or some of the more "eccentric" execs at say MTN or Mr Price, both of whom write multi-million rand sponsors cheques.

While there are bugs in the system, the majority of the problems is due to a lack of support from club level. A whole number of clubs exist purely on paper, so much so that neither the telephone -, cellphone numbers or email addresses provided actually works.

I think if the system wasn't launched there would be no way for the CSA to pressure clubs to keep their info up to date.

Responsible corporate governance is far more important to sponsors than looks. Carinus' job is to sort out the operations at the CSA - something, which by all accounts, he's been doing brilliantly despite a sh*tload of bickering, personal agendas and petty politics within the CSA.

It's Whittaker and Bellairs' jobs to get sponsorship - something they've also been doing.

Couple of points:

1) CL well done, finally a CSa spokeperson who know what they are talking about.

2) CL is making a difference. CSA needs to represent Cycling in South Africa as a sport with the right person advocating on our behalf, Getting something back for cycling.

3) I do not think that the problem of licenses lies totally with the CSA, as I have now had the experience of setting up and starting a team, CSA has been helpfull and dilligent , whereas my Provincial affiliates are not helpfull, I have yet to get any answer out of them for the questions I have asked. Hence went direct to CSA,

4) maybe CSA is not hearing our concerns cause as per the point above, our provincial affiliates are not doing their JOBS towards cycling?????

Hmm, I dont watch SC, I dont know Carinus, I have never met the man and I dont even know if I would recognize him, however I have heard he has a rather "unemployed varsity student" appearance, which may not worry us here, but I do think it is a factor when you hold a rather high position in an organisation looking for respect from business and government.

The most successfull business in the world "DISNEY" has one of the most strict dress and appearance codes in the world if you want to work for them - they demand an image and that image is respected and looked highly upon all over the world.

Without a doubt dress and appearance code is important, First impressions are vital in todays world, and you only get one chance at it!!.

I support what Widget say's. A lot of companies went from formal to informal with the IT bang, but now are returning to more a more formal dress code.
