I run the same as Thug. Around 23psi.

I am going to get a bigger volume tyre on the rigid though and run slightly less pressure...

JC... jis ou... 2 bar?!

Sorry if its a dof question but what constitutes a high volume tire? I'm going to be runing a 2.5 Kenda Nevegal in front at around 1.8. Also do grips make any real difference?

Not a dof question. I'm currently running a 2.25 tyre. I'm on Crest rims and don't like running the pressure to low (although on a rigid I feel I need to run it a little lower. So I'm moving to a 2.4 tyre to see if this helps.

Your 2.5 will offer plenty volume!

Grips on a rigid definitely make a difference. I cannot run the 'normal' rubber lock on grips. I moved to ESI grips which I also find are useless as they're actually quite hard. I run really cheap sponge grips (BBB and Ritchey make some). They might need to be replaced more often but they're super soft and at the price (about R40) you can replace them often. Ryder and PRO also make a silicon grip similar to ESI but softer, and better IMO.

what can I say I'm a big boy. I also ride quite hard and after going through 3 rims up front i decided to run higher pressure and HTFU. Palms and elbows take a beating the first time I ride after a while off, but toughen up pretty quick.

An yes grips make a huge difference. the softer and chunkier the better

For me "high volume" starts at 2.4

Conti X-King 2.4 on my SS front and it's AWESOME TO THE MAX and very good.

Understood - there's a line between low pressure grip and low pressure damage-a-rim...

I got me some PRO gel grips - similar to ESI but bigger... Will post a review when they're on and ridden....

What Eldron said.

Sometime back when everyone was racing around on 1.9 and 2.0 tyres, 2.25 tyres were 'high volume'... I run 2.25 tyres on all my bikes and they're great. I just need a little more volume up front on the rigid bike. 2.4 or higher is were it's at...
