I am looking for a 29er and came across the Axis range, can anyone give me some feedback about the bikes. Had a look on there website and they give themselves a good write up. I'm looking for a more objective opinion.

Axis is the little brother to Scott. the local Scott importers went to Taiwan, build a range out of catalogues shown to them, sent the designs they wanted on the paintwork and specced it with parts they buy in bulk. Exactly the same way that they did it with Raleigh a couple of years back.

Momsen, silverback, booth bikes, Titan and Volcan do the same.

Don't expect pedigree, massive R&D or innovative technology.

But you can expect value, good part spec. and reliability. You probably won't break an axis frame.

In short: nothing groundbreaking, but you can't go wrong.

Silverback design their own frames and spec it themselves.

Silverback design their own frames and spec it themselves.

Silverback doesn't have a real R&D dept etc like the big brands, although they make it sound as if they do, even their website silverbacklab. Silverback started in SA and "moved" to Germany to make it sound better.

As PhilipV and chum said, very reliable but don't expect rocket science.

Good value, just make sure an experienced mech builds your bike.

The A10 is slightly lighter because it has higher-spec front shock (A10 - Reba; A20 - Recon) and some SRAM components vs A20 with Shimano gear.

The Avid Elixir 1s on my brother's A20 get the job done (A10 has Elixir 3. Don't know whether they're better).

If you're considering Axis, then I'm assuming you're after value and not bling:

Put the savings of going A20 instead of A10 into a tubeless conversion and race entires and enjoy your ride.

Let me just clear up - do you want either the A10 or A20 in FS or the A10 hardtail or A20 FS? What price were you quoted on both bikes?

The A10 is a nice looking bike and has awesome components, but so does the A20.

Believe me when I say that you'll need to put on other brakes right from get go. I'm going through the same process, so keep that in consideration.

I am looking at both bike bikes in FS, but would like to find someone who has ridden them. The pricing is great, almost to good. I am not overly concerned with, "the cool factor", but don't want to buy a dog of a bike.
