Table View -> CPT Route via Paarden Eieland / N1

Hey guys,

I am moving back to Table view and will be gunning it on the cycle track once again... just wanted to know why I see so many guys riding on marine drive in paarden eieland and on the N1 instead of following the cycle track through the back of PE and coming out at Woodstock, I do recall it being a bit sketch but surely they have beefed up the security there?

How else do you get in to or out of town without going on the N1 ?? And what is the route if you go on the N1?

Thanks!

Paarden Eilland to town and vice versa isn't considered "freeway" apparently. I ride the cycle track though, haven't encountered any probs in the cold light of day, although I suspect a few others may have. I do a relaxed 90km breakfast ride Sundays, Blouberg to Hout Bay return. Join me when you're back in Table View.

Two guys tried to mug me in October last year on this route just after the tunnel under the N1 on the railway side. They knocked me off my bike as I rode past so I had a nasty fall. I am still pissed off!

I continue to ride this route but I am very watchful and now carry a taser. I haven't heard of any trouble along here in a long time but it's best to be careful.

I ride from Hout Bay to Century City so I am normally riding against the traffic so I ride alone. If you can ride with someone then even better.

I do that same route but from Woodbridge into Paarden Eiland, I've had no hassles whatsoever.

i came across three signs in a row on the bike path/pavement just before the bridge over the lagoon. the 1st one was for 'beware - roadworks' then these two.

we saw no roadworks taking place between this spot and the dolphin beach turn.

the hard shoulder is wide enough to accomodate the signs.

Good afternoon, what time do people generally leave for work on this route as I am currently riding alone (although I see a lot of people), and would like to join up with someone during the commute to town and back.

I ride from Milnerton and turn off at Paarden Island Station towards Pinelands almost every day around 07h30 and again around 17h30... I will be moving out Blouberg way at the end of October though

I've also recently started this commute, which is awesome. I've ridden along the path, but I try to catch up or wait for other cyclists so that I'm not on my own.

Anyone else that can share some of their recent experience of riding along the path?

-or-

Is it a better option to go through the docks or straight onto N1?

Thanks!

P.S. I'm always keen on riding along with others, so if you also tend to ride alone let me know and we can ride together. I cycle this route once a week - I am a beginner though, takes me 45min - 59min to do that commute.

Looking for people to mostly ride from town to Woodbridge Island with, leaving town near the Volvo dealership at 5.40pm. I'm on a MTB. I come in about once or twice a week with a friend but he rides back to Montague Gardens after we do a Sea Point/Camps Bay loop.

I recently started riding from Blouberg to Woodstock and back. I leave Blouberg at 5:45 am and town around 5:30pm. Even if you just want to do the Paarden Eiland stretch together, let me know :)

Doing the route via the cycle lane to the woodstock bus stop and into obs currently only doing one way per day as i need the car for work  but i leave around 5:15 am and around 4pm. Never had an issue except for the steel plate that was "affirmatively shopped" last year some time. luckily i was warned by some guys comming from town.
