This looks like an idea, however my times would be incompatible.

The track closes at 19h00. Depending on where you are in JHB, this might only give you about a 1hr ride

I see they changed the winter times.

Used to be from 17H00 only.

If getting of at Allendale, traffic would be a mess due to the road works.

Its actually not too bad if you get there during daylight they usually have an outsurance pointsman... Becomes a mess around sunset though. Other option is to take M1 split at Buccleugh then Woodmead and up the R55 - about 10 to 15 minutes from when you get on the offramp Edited by dracs

The websites say that if you have a light... you can carry on until 19:00.

Are there no lights around the course though?

Lucky for me is that I work in Midrand... I agree with the traffic situation that time of the afternoon, so this is where the knowledge of back roads come in handy.

I agree it might be slightly boring going around the track the whole time, however the track offers safety, chance to mingle, offers a good training typography... I'm actually just keen to go since i haven't been there with the bike.

I've been around the track a few times with the R1 though :whistling:

It's definitely good interval training as you are climbing Wesbank hill every 10 or so minutes.

They also change the direction that you cycle the track each time to mix it up a bit.

I still ride in winter. It gets dark early but its good interval training. The traffic is horrendous getting there, but it beats riding on the road amongst the traffic at the same time. Easier for me to drive to Kyalami than to the Cradle or Suikerbosrand.

I also just came back from the track... It is great training and not a safer place in SA... Great for everything. If you just want to get the legs loose or even pushing it up a hill a bit...

I would love to go more but I am a student and it bites into my budget a bit. I know R20 is not a lot but even without that I just get by with my allowance... I tried to ask the guys if we can arrange something as I am going to start work in Midrand next year after studies but they didn't want to assist me (which I can also understand as it is a business) but I had to try...

But if I have a few spare pennies I try and go as often as possible, even in winter but I try and go at 16:30.

Is that an open invitation ?

I was thinking the same thing... If you guys wanna get a group together, I'll definitely form part thereof. I work in Midrand, so i guess if i leave work around 4pm... i'll get there in about 20min or so
