Belt drive and fixie just won't work.

Why not? I vaguely remember seeing some concept fixed gear bike with a belt drive. Can't remember what it was tho.

EDIT: just checked online and saw quite some fixed gear bikes with belt drives.

Checked out the Gates website and they say it's possible to run it on fixed gear bike, but they recommend to mount brakes on it, so that the belt drive isn't the main brake.

This seems like it's rather a legal question. If the belt drive really is stronger than a chain, lasts twice as strong as a chain, and doesn't stretch, like they  say (haven't had one myself so can't tell from my own experience), than having a belt drive would actually be better on a fixed gear bike than a chain.

Unless belt drives suddenly snap in half without showing any wear before? In that case a chain could be better since you can see on the stretch if it needs to be replaced before it snaps (and you have no brake).

When searching for fixed gear bikes with belt drives I ran into this. Not only relevant to the discussion, but also has a green frame  :P

Loving the concept of this:

You ask me "why not" then proceed to post a pic of a belt drive built on to a freewheel rear hub.

Go an build a FIXED gear belt drive and tell us about the end results .

No, that's why they tell you to out brakes on it.

Backpedal with that belt and you will write the story from a hospital bed.

This isn't relevant - this ISN'T a fixie...

It's the bike we've been discussing - read the thread...
