"The only tweet conspicuous by its absence in apologising to a former SA TDFrance stage winner is from a certain MTB course builder."

On a serious note... That is why I hate twitter and facebook, it revolves around an overdeveloped sense of self.

SELF: "oh I'm having scrambled eggs for breakfast."

SELF IMPORTANCE: "Do you know who would love to know that you are having scrambled eggs for breakfast?"

SELF: "no, who?"

SELF IMPORTANCE: "Your followers!"

SELF: "Really???"

SELF IMPORTANCE: "Just make sure you preface it with something totally hipster and nonsensical like #omnomnom"

What did Evans think that he even stood to gain by calling out Robbie on not congratulating Impey? The mind boggles.

I joined twitter when burry was killed by that taxi. it was the fastest way of getting all the details (although not 100% acurate always)

since, i have been having mixed feelings about it's usefullness.

very usefull if you drive around town a lot. 90% of traffic probs gets tweeted, and one can plan one's route accordingly.

Marketing, and hype creation by event managers are very effective. If one wants to stay 100% up to date with a stage race or event, check it out on twitter.

This has a downside, and TBH i think it detracted from this year's sani experience for me.

- i saw what goodies were in the box on twitter, way before the event

- i saw some new sections of the route on twitter

- there was a constant stream of running commentary from the trail guys.

it's not something you HAVE to be part of, but like all things techno - it become a habit, of quickly while waiting somewhere to check whats happening on one's twitter feed.

Twitter in moderation anyone? With all the comms tech floating around us, the only real value I see in communicating is saying stuff that is important to the people I am telling, or stuff that can spark lateral thought, that's what i like to read anyway..

Actually come to think of it, Tumbles, what was my first experience with twitter, do you remember? If I recall it involved you and a certain medical diagnosis.. juicy tidbit of info that was! #yum. I guess you could say I have been born from depths of twitter, only up from that point hey? ;)

Hahahahahahahahaha! Indeed!

I seem to recall the medical condition - for once - wasn't me, but a weird text from my son. He had a scare about a lump. Turned out to be an ingrown hair on his bum! Hahahahaha!

I actually like Twitter. I used it as an excuse when my boss noticed that I was consistently late for work. I told him I have news agency feeds on Twitter, so my work day starts when I take my morning dump and start scrolling through my TL.

I don't have telly at home, so I follow sport on it. I've also come into contact with some interesting people. During last year's WC in PMB - which I was live tweeting - I got a message from a Venazulean pro MTB racer to thank me for all the updates. I forgot about him until some months later until I tweeted a Spanish quote in the wee hours of a Sunday morning when I couldn't sleep. Antonio replied to it, and we ended up having a long half-English/half Spanish exchange!

 Yes, I think quite a few people know your "routine"

Knowing what you and your *poops are up to is strangely addictive

I suppose its merit is in how you use it. I also imagine it is easier for a guy. No one gets especially catty if you refuse to follow or friend them.

Social media is great in my own humble opinion....it is sad to see how people abuse it....I wouldn't dare slander anyone or anything....then again...maybe our government will be an exception

Indeed.

I also find that weird that people compare follower/friend counts. And then there's Klout scores. There's a guy I know from one of my local pubs who got really upset with me because I didn't reply to his tweet. Then he made some ratty comment about me having so many followers than him. I was, like, WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

It's funny how some serious Twitter addicts think Twitter isn't for puppy or kitten pics, so I do my regular "puppy porn spam attacks"!

Wow, nice (and simultaneously terrifying) to know that its not a behaviour unique to women. I have a deep envy of those people whose friend lists consist only of close family members and close friends, Their mental filing process must be a reassuringly logic thing to behold!

At the risk of sounding sexist, Twitter in particular has made men cattier than women are thought to be. It's like that social media platform is the "penile substitute" of the new millenia.

Don't worry, I won't get catty if you don't follow me! Hahahahahaha!
