Might need a rigid 29er HT for that...

After watching that video those are my exact thoughts but video seldom does justice to the true nature of the course. Does anyone who's actually ridden the trail think you can get away with a rigid forked 29er hardtail assuming a rider with above average technical skills?

I have a choice of adding gears to my rigid Ritchey P29er single speed or going with a heavier, less responsive Anthem X 29er Comp.

Course looks fantastic BTW! Really looking forward to this event!

It suits a 29er Hardtail, but the rock gardens are pretty gnar ... so a full sus will aslo be fine - but you will need lock out for the climbs

And "Over the Top" is already living up to its name .... seen a couple of okes eat it off there already

Rode it saturday.... Video makes it look smooth, but in reality section are quite rooty and the rock gardens are not as easy as they make them look. They know the lines, and the speed to carry.... Also, the down sections look flat... but there are a few sections where you are right off the back of your seat!!!

Yip. I'm a softie. I wouldn't ride it with anything less than 150mm travel: front, rear and seatpost.

Watched the full video last night.

Looks awesome and will suit a fast starter with narrow bars (no bar ends) who can ride roots while focusing on the track rather than the many tree's and tree stumps in close proximity, ride switchbacks well and jump....LOL the ideal modern day XC racer.

The following is not a criticism but rather questions to help solve potential problems on race day, and may also be based on incorrect assumptions based on my only seeing the video.

Just wondering about the lack of place to pass on the majority of the single track sections, there seems very little passing opportunity other than the chicken run options (which cannot really be used for passing by riders of more or less equal ability) and the wider jeep track sections.

Do the UCI specify a minimum "rideable" track width for WC courses?

Will there be a start loop before the first narrow section (1 minute into the video), the 2 riders were riding along at a slow pace and it took them a minute to reach it, at race pace there wont be much opportunity for the riders who are not near the front on the start line to improve their position?
