Porche needed some extra power but could not get it out of their flat 6 aircooled engine......so they simply bolted two of them together and made a flat aircooled V12! To keep it all cool they stuck a big fat fan on top of it and told the drivers to go flat out! Then they built he lightest possible flattest most aerodynamic frame and flimsy skin to cover it. Zero safety features, nada, nothing! It went like a rocket and won Le Mans hands down a couple of times in a row until everyone else copied them! legendary stuff!
