I'll be in Balito from Monday 26th - 31st August 2013 and I'm looking for a group or a single rider to ride with at Holla Trails while I there.

With the risk of sounding pretentious, I'm an above average rider.

Failing that, is Holla Trails safe to ride alone?

Safe as houses.

The only thing you need to keep in mind is that there's pretty much no cell signal out there, so go with a 'self supported' mindset. If you're on your own and you get into difficulty, only you will get yourself out.

I ride there alone all the time, and have done so for years. Great place to ride.

I've been riding Holla alone for 4 years, no issues.

Since Holla opened about 4 years ago, there has been only one incident, an attempted bike jacking, bike was never stolen and the trail team caught the guys immediately, I would ride with you, but I am most definitely below average. Go to the Holla Trails Facebook page, plenty of guys to hook up with.

The new red and Maroon route are incredible, the yellow is 45 Kay's with 700 mts verticals gain, then the black, 86 Kay's, 2000 mts vertical gain, but some incredible riding.

Red is 28 Kay's, a tough ride, Mardon about 26ish reasonably tough, yellow is quite easy, blue 20 or so, easy riding, with some nice single track.

I was on holiday in Salt Rock for the Father's Day long weekend and enjoyed 3 fantastic rides at Holla and always felt completely safe........certainly felt far safer when riding alone in comparison to my solo rides in Gauteng.

Red route is only around 28km but some fantastic riding - did the same route twice as the 2nd run was even more enjoyable knowing what to expect and being able to attack the track (route marking is not perfect so you tend to spend much of the 1st run looking for markers instead of enjoying the actual riding)

By the way.......hopefully this has now been corrected by now but I discovered that the online GPS route was not the same as the marked route which caused quite a bit of frustration (ended up doing 32km on my first ride instead of 28km as marked)

I'm going to Balito again this year as I really enjoyed Holla Trails. My major gripe though was that the signage was awful then and if you are not familiar with the area, you can get lost. I have tried to download the yellow trail map from their website, but with no joy. Does anyone have accurate maps for my Garmin that I can use (especially the yellow and black route)? I'd really appreciate it.

If I'm around when you want to ride, I'm always keen for a riding partner so happy to ride Holla if you keen (can do w/ends only).

Send PM.

yellow is really well marked ( actually most routes are ) just black you can go wrong . go with someone . im there the whole of next week if you want you can join us . i have ridden there plenty and never had a problem . just one point on the yellow lookup at the telephone pole the marker is on that , this is not jhb with pritty little markers in the floor , you need to be sharp and look around .

Sorry, my fault, I didn't communicate properly. I'll only be there in December. Many thanks for your offers though. I didn't know that there were markers on the telephone poles, so thanks for that.
