Ermmm yes and ?

So my question still, why a blow torch ?

Unless the guys soaked the nipple and thread in locktite there has to be something else at play.

Lol true, a lighter will work just as well - i assume the same goes for flames as does for hammers, tighter the bolt the bigger the flame?

There are two guys who build wheels who have commented on your problem. Take your wheels to whichever one is closest to you.

The blow torch comment was tounge in cheek. I actually use a little gas firelighter - a trick I learnt from working on my Eastons with threads on both ends.

Sorry for the hi-jack but I have a similar problem on my rear wheel(XT rim and hub). Spoke keeps loosing tension and causing a funny "eeck eeck" sound when riding. LBS has worked on it last week but over the weekend I noticed the tension gone again. Any Advice or contacts I can try in Cape town? Maybe Johan B can advise?

Well In Kenilworth I have used Crown Cycles and they have been good. Haven't had issues 5 months down the line.

Haven't been to bike shops in Durbanville so not sure

So i took my bike to a different shop for a "second opinion" and to see what they recommend. The dude told me that they not only tighten the whole spoke, but rather loosen all of them and re-tighten the entire wheel.

They also use some toffie like oil on the threads to keep it in place. Well that's all done now, so I recon the proof is in the pudding.

He also mentioned that IF it comes loose again, then I must look at the rims as the fault would be rim related then.

Mark at Crown in Lansdowne Rd, or Kevin at BMC in Woodstock.
