Hi Guys,

I am new on TheHub, so firstly, Hi!

I am looking at getting a good quality mountain bike with a good group set that can last many years - will be buying two of these, one for me and one for my father. The 2014 Merida Tfs 500 Big Nine caught my eye because it has a good group set and air shocks with remote lockout. Just a few questions:

1) Price, what would this bike go for - best deal ? (please specify where)

2) Performance, anyone has this bike or the previous years?

We will primarily use this bike for single trail with the odd technical sections. (ie. Groenkloof, Modderfontein)

Thanks Guys!

Hey Gringo,

After a lot of research and shopping around I opted for the Big Nine TFS500 and got it from Linden Cycles. Good service and friendly staff (thanks Jarrod). I am new to Mountain Biking so I cannot give you an experienced answer but so far the bike is awesome and I am very happy with it. I'll PM you more details.

First of all - the pic you posted is the 2012 TFS 900 26" and not the Big nine TFS 500.

Second, the Big Nine TFS 500 2014 model should go for around R11 500.

Third, you can either shop around your location to check out prices or just go onto yellow pages site and find numbers of cycling shops within 100-200km from you, phone them and ask for a quote and then grab the best deal.

I know of a few cheap shops in the North-West and KZN but I see you're in Gauteng.

Hey dude, I've bought this bike last year December, might not be the 2014 model (Not too sure tbh) but it's an awesome bike nonetheless. Bang for buck you won't go wrong.

But I got a really good deal from Finish line in Kempton, got the bike with the tubeless conversion for approximately R10k.

Maybe give them a call and ask them what they can do for you.

Good luck!
